Can't go wrong with xt pedals in my (fairly extensive) experience.

My surly is 4130 and I'm very happy with it. Although it does suffer the same coke can sized head tube skinny steel fork aesthetic discussed here earlier. Easily solved with a carbon fork upgrade later on maybe. But I've growth to quite like it as is.
I do agree with @amey that best performance for the £££ will come from Giant, Trek, Specialized etc but given the choice I'd buy the surly again as I just love riding it.

Ha, did my extra e and lack of acute accent on the other e cause this mild bout of aggression? I like cycling a LOT more than I like watching people being paid to ride bikes so my knowledge of the correct terms (and my lack of ability to speak/write French) has let me down. But I do know that of in English is of.
Baguettes at dawn? 😉

The de in Tour de Yorkshire really boils my piss.
It's not Vuelta de España or Giro de Italia. I don't see the need for the Tour of Yorkshire anyway and I realise its a painful hangover from when Yorkshire held the Grande Depart, but if its a valid race in its own right have the confidence to use your own language for its name rather than piggy backing the the Tour de France.
Everytime I hear it said it makes irrationally angry. I can just imagine a boardroom of the Yorkshire tourist board coming up with this shit plan and none of them being vaguely interested in cycling or cycle racing.

You've hit the nail on the head. I've not had a cx bike in a while and had mainly been riding my hardtail MTB recently so initially the lack of suspension fork took some mental adjustment, but over the course of this first ride the joy of cx starting flowing through my body again. It's a different thing to a good xc mtb ride but just as much fun. Can't wait to spend more time on it as I was thrashing about on it and grinning like a Cheshire cat by the end of the ride.
It rides just like a cx bike and whilst the heavier 2.25" mtb tyres are a little less snappy acceleration wise, once up to speed they're unstoppable. Think cx bike that you don't have to be quite so fussy about line choice. The extra traction and grip gives amazing confidence to just smash through the rutted techy sections. I think I'll let a little more air out the tyres next time out, but yeah TL;DR: it's a fucktonne of fun.

Cheers Michael.
So as soon as work was done I headed out for a quick spin in the woods. Having ridden my mtb so much recently it took a little mental adjustment to get into cx mode again but the more I rode it the more I loved it.
It's not as snappy as the Victoire in terms of acceleration but then that's probably a lot to do with 35c G Ones vs 2.25 mtb tyres as anything else. And I can switch to those wheels should I want/need to. Once up to speed it's unstoppable and it has mtb levels of grip and traction which overall made for a lot more fun. It basically rides like a cx bike that you don't have to baby quite so much on the techy terrain.
TL:DR it's fucking superb!

A massive rowdy handsome thing. I'll take that @furious_tiles @vp1337 and @Howard
Saddle height correctly adjusted, black saddle fitted, a few minor tweaks and we're ready for a maiden voyage.
Years and years seems like a BBC sitcom version of Black Mirror, but like has been said I think it's disturbingly accurate in terms of where our society is heading.
