I often use front panniers on the rear,if you don't need the capacity they work really well, less chance of heal strike, lighter, neater, lower center of gravity.
However the chance of the Edinburgh cycles offer being a cock-up are extremely high,£10 posted for a pair of £100 panniers?
It's not Christmas. -
Maybe a bit small, but retrodicorsa's Gillot from here would save me from temptation

or this if still available?

Presumably you know British bikes of that era will almost certainly be made for 27" wheels?
The advantage is plenty of clearance for wider 700c tyres, but you will need deep drop brakes.
120 old rear also limits you to 5 speed freewheel.
Try posting on the CTC website and Retrobike to increase your chances of finding what you want.I have posted a couple of bikes to my daughter in Mainz so happy to forward to Germany if the seller is reluctant (many will be, especially on the CTC website)
PM me if I can help.

This works well for us on raised beds
https://www.slughelp.com/electric-slug-fence/
If you are flinging them over a fence you need a good throwing arm.
Need to move them a minimum of 65 ft or they'll return "home",not as impressive as homing pigeons, but not bad.
Good Luck!
PM re the Mavic CXP30 and back stand.
