Right that's day one done! They're in the land of nod already.... excellent. Must be time to bust open the twisties and start swigging the rum, no?
Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
Anyone been to avenue Q? Think I've got choices down to that, wicked or oliver... anything else and I think there might be too much singing. -

OK peeps - so they arrived safely. I've set them up in the flat with an afternoons quantity of hobnobs and tea. I have recommended that they wait for a break in the weather before they venture to Brockwell park and Brixton market for some culture....
Two things my mums said already (one expected, the other unexpected)
1) "The london underground lady was most helpful"
2) "You're not going to work like that, are you?"Ahh fun and games. What time does the walkabout open in the morning?

Truth be told, the real reason I met them was because reading a book on the way to Heathrow is preferable to doing a morning's work.
Being at work is probably better than sitting on the sofa drinking 7 cups of tea whilst waiting an undefined amount of time, semi worried your boss is going to tell you not to bother coming in tomorrow (or the day after) cause you're a lazy shite.

I met mine at Heathrow. You lazy so and so :P
Oh the guilt trip - had that already..... my old flat mate was like 'what so you'll go and meet a friend at heathrow for a pint cause they've got a 4 hour lay over, but you won't go and meet your folks?'.
correct. They're big people, they can work it out.

I was going to tell them I lived in Herne Hill and that they've just got to take a relaxing stroll through Brockwell park to my lovely abode. But I can't be arsed. They're aussie after all - they don't care where I live. They're not snobs just middle classfolk.
As for the boyfriend angle - I like... but the mother will just turn around and diplomatically say 'well as long as you're happy'. At least they're not pestering about grandchildren (yet). -
-
As for survival.... to avoid pissing each other off, how to be civil and diplomatic.....rather than rising to any bait.... count a slow ten seconds and then gently try to change the subject
As long as I don't get the 'when are you going to sort out your life' question it will be ok... and as long as my mum can deal with the fact, that I don't iron, and I never will, and that in a house of 3 girls we fail to own a iron and borad (or a mop and bucket for that matter).
Sunday jazz at the effra sounds like a good idea.
BTW - my mum doesn't drink.... think I got her share of the drinking genes.. so yeah, pa will be up for drinking ale with me - ma might just look bored. I'll get her some suduko books.

Guys - I'm not dissing Brixton... I love it. I just don't know what they're expecting. I'm surely they'll be just surpremely chuffed to be spending time with their amazing daughter.... I'm also going home for xmas (a surprise) - so I'm less excited about this trip than they are cause I know I'll see them again in a couple of months.
Can anyone sort this weather out though? I mean a stroll around southbank in the rain?
I hate cold tea. That mouthful of lukewarm milkyness makes me gag.
I also hate thinking there is still tea in my cup when its empty. Reaching the end is so upsetting.
