+1 - and are you sure about spending 5-6 times the cost of your bike on a brake lever?!
ha! I guess youre right but i have no qualms about spending money on quality kit (especially when it looks so damn good) and i get the feeling im gonna get right into this fixie malarky and will probably upgrade everything as i go (Im a sucker for nice bike kit)

Thats the idea im going for ed, Ive got a front mavic ksyrium wheel for it (i bought it simply because of the funky spoke pattern) I spent too much on that so the rear wheel is gonna be a cheap second hand fixed/free affair, overall build is gonna be under £100. Bikes are there to be used and loved, no point wrapping it up in cotton wool and crying over little scratches!

Tell me about it! Auctions can be pretty damn good. Im not currently using it, i just singlespeed'd it so i could have a little razz outside my house. New wheels and saddle (and Paul components lever) and it'll be done. Really quite enjoying learning about fixed gears, i thought it would be simpler but it really isnt! chainlines and gear ratios being the current mind benders, lots of useful info here though.

Ha! grumbling about new people, remember everyone was a n00b once. Im converting a Raleigh alpha sport into a fixie at the moment (got it for £6 at an auction) which is almost exactly the same as yours. Rough guide for price? if you get a new fixie specific rear wheel/sprocket/lockring you'll be looking at about £100ish, second hand could be done for half that easy. Have fun.

Bought a wheelset from them a year or so ago (for my mtb, Hope Pro 2/mavic xm819. Not cheap) And they were great, correctly tensioned and true. Pity you had a bad experience as they can be fine.
