So, I got a pair of 8 mm MKS tugs. I thought it seemed very bulky on the track end in terms of width. In any case, the size meant that it interfered with the Phil Wood dome I have on there so I sold them on.
I then got a 5 mm MKs tug which fits perfectly well (BJ Vigorelli) and leaves room for the Dome (I know that with a tug the domes should not be needed - I might revert back to normal Phil Wood washers). This tug works really well and has already helped make the bike more the low-maintenance machine that I had hoped for.
Anyhoo - my problem is this. Does the washer part of the tug go inside or outside the dropout? The leaflet that came with the tugs (in Japanese) has diagrams that do not provide clues. Searching on here doesn't give any clear answers.
Advice appreciated: in or out?I see that the thin MKS chaintug fits track ends up to 5 mm, according to Hujub. Is that an accurate upper limit? I measure my Bob Jackson's at 5.3 mm ish. The fat ones look a bit more bulky than I'd like.
Not that I like tugs much in any case, but just occasionally my wheel moves fractionally, no matter what I do.

Bought these very recently - they do not work with my current set-up hence the sale.
The package has been opened, one side has been tried briefly on an axle (but not tightened), the other has not been unpacked, and all the packaging / instruction leaflet is there. As new.

Note that this is the 8 mm version with the Allen key fitting.

Computer is Blackburn Delphi 4.0.
My forks are triangular in shape, the flat being on the inside, due to the outer shape it is difficult getting the angle correctA quick Google image search seems to show that it is a fairly conventional attachment. It can be a bit fiddly on some forks, granted, but there'll be a way. At worst you'll need to make a little padded piece out of e.g. plastazote to augment the supplied fittings.
Wireless: often a PITA. The only one I've found to be reliable is the Cateye Strada. Shit bracket though unless it stays on one bike all the time. Good luck with the Delphi.

Cheers. I always love PeterWhites website. So informative. Quite tempted by the the SQR Slim
Yes, great site. Ben's cycles and Rene Herse also good for tasty items but not so informative.
I didn't really consider the SQRs as I was after a set-up that didn't have any clamps on the seatpost, but aside from that aspect I have a suspicion that they slap your legs as you pedal. Which would irritate the hell out of me.

Sergeant Pluck - What's the saddle bag on the BJ?
It's a "Super C Barley" by Carradice. Not a stock item, they make them for Peter White cycles in the USA, but if you give Carradice a ring they'll do one for you the next time they do a run. Same as a Barley but with webbing straps and plastic QR snap buckle things which I prefer to the usual leather straps.

Agree with edscoble. It's arguable that horizontal forward facing dropouts, as in the Tempo, are handier overall for a road bike compared to track ends. Less adjusting of the rear brakes needed when flipping to a different sprocket, for instance, because the dropouts are roughly parallel to the movement of the rim at the brakes.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, appreciate that the thread is 22 mm most of the time, no problem with that aspect, but I was thinking more of the depth or clearance over the bolt heads. Perhaps some dust caps might not clear the bolts if they were meant for cranks that use a Allen key bolts.
considering that the thread is always the same diameter/pitch (apart from old TA or Stronglight), on't see why any dust cap won't screw in :)

The tyre is a 23-622 or 700-32C and the rim is 700C. At 80PSI (at the lower range) the bead still shouldnt slip off
And is the rim suited to 32C tyres? Just checking - not familiar with those rims.
No, 80 psi is not going to blow the tyre off but I was thinking that too low a pressure might allow too much movement of the tyre when riding.
-
Apologies if I've missed this info, but what are the dimensions of the rim and the tyre? As well as the max pressure, is there a minimum quoted? 80 is fairly low for what I assume is a 23 or so tyre.
As per previous posts, put some air in the tube before putting it in. Helps the tube get located properly well up in the tyre. Take care with the valve stem and make sure you push it up so that the tube is not trapped under the bead. Fit tyre (best to avoid levers, almost always possible to do by hand), put some more air in, go round each side of the tyre and do a sort of push-pull-lift to ensure the tyre is well seated.
Then inflate.Folding tyres have a kevlar or similar flexible bead. Non-folders use wire. Both are clinchers.

Hi,
I have managed to split my rear axle spacer/washer in half while over tightening. I have looked everywhere for an on-line shop that sells these wee buggers, but can't find anywhere.
I can find non-threaded spacers. But it's the little threaded washers that go on the end that I am after. Does anyone know where I can find these?
Much appreciated.

Nitto Dynamic quill stem, for 26.0 mm bars and 1" steerer. 110 mm version.
18 months old, has only ever had one set of bars in it, bolts and threads are perfect, grease applied from new.
There are marks to the lacquer where it has been in the steerer, as you'd expect, but as I have had the stem set relatively high fortunately these very slight marks begin less than 10 mm above the minimum insertion point.
No marks at all on the horizontal part of the stem or on the clamp. Very nicely finished - same finish as a Pearl.
Note that this is a Dynamic, not the Dynamic Mk11, see about 2/3rds of the way down this page:
