No need for improvement on this design... http://www.cycloc.com/
Now, what would be really good would be secure bike parking / bike lockers which people could rent from the local authority - turn some resident's car parking bays over to resident's bicycle parking. Design a means of persuading local authorities that it would be a good idea; now there's a challenge.
ah but it's £60, not ideal for students..
and yeah youre defo right there about the bike parking thing, if this was a longer term project i'd probably look into something like that
I think that a tweak here or there of the pedal hanger would do, for the reasons you mentioned - they stick too far into the room, as there's clearance for very wide flat bars. They should have done a shorter one for drops/narrow bars. As for marks on Walls, a black paint stripe would fix that, cos yeah it's not ideal.
Please, say college or university. Just not 'Uni'. It makes you sound really fucking young... Oh wait...
#oldguypretendinghe'snot...well i'm only 19, most people call it uni dont they? as for tweaking current products, it definitely works, but not every bike owner is gonna want to do that or be able to do that.. i think there's definitely still a market for a design that works out the box

No need for a new design. These are the bestest.
http://www.bikester.co.uk/bicycle-equipment/bicycle-storage/wall-and-ceiling-racks/4974.htmlwould this cause dirty tyres to rest on the wall though?

We've got the rule "Blood in, blood out".
Once in my stable, there's no easy way of leaving it.

Double rack from Retro Di Corsa
(pic)cheers for the pics, what would you say could improve those designs though? like if it was your ideal bike rack, what would be different? or what makes them better than other ones?

okay i'll be the first to admit i have not organised this well, if at all lol.
the thing is im not trying to design a new product, i just have to write what is wrong (or right) with the old ones, so if anyone has used any and has anything to say about them i would appreciate it.
the pedal hanger one looks good but im guessing the tyres lean against the wall, no good on a dirty bike?
and thanks for input so far, most of it is useful :)

hi everyone, i need your help!
i'm at nottingham trent uni currently doing research for a project. basically i have to write a report explaining why a new product needs to be designed, and ive chosen a bike rack to go in the home (student/city apartment with restricted space), so what i basically need to do is get everyone's opinions on what the advantages/disadvantages for the current designs on the market are, so here's a few of the best sellers.. any chance you could write what's good/bad about each one if you've used them..1
Mottez 2 Bike Wall Mount Folding Stand: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure4
http://www.householdinnovations.co.uk/shop/bike-hoist-p-44.html?zenid=agu4ql7ah0442nqpl6k53gmp245
http://www.towsure.com/product/CyclePark_Wall_or_Floor_Mounted_Bicycle_Wheel_Standi know a lot of designs are duplicated across companies, but i want to get an idea of what is good/bad about each design.
the sort of things i was thinking of were like some cause the pedals/tyres to touch the wall, damaging it etc.. or it protrudes too far into the room. that sort of thing..
so yeah, just write the number, then write something good or bad about the design, please :)
thanks in advance
:)
