I've had a scout round, read some great recommendations on budget lightweight options (the Montane H20), some strong opinions on eVent winning over Paclite on the breathability factor (which is essential for what I need)...
I couldn't seem to see peoples recommendations, if cost was only the secondary factor and ultimate wet weather fast city riding performance being the first, what you'd go for.
Maybe not a Rapha, but still something that was waterproof, good venting but didn't make u look too much of a freak.
I've got my birthday coming up, so I reckon could gather together funds for a decent investment....what would you say...apart from the inevitable UTFS (which I did, honest guv...)
dhb Wickham eVent is meant to be awesome. It's about £100 on Wiggle.
I think Singletrack magazine are doing a group test in their next issue, so check that out too maybe.

Thanks for the feedback.
They'll be going on a On-One Pompino. The pedals are most likely going to be Burgtec Penthouse Flats, so I thought I might want to look into getting a SS chainset which would look good with them. Overkill? Of course. But I want to try it anyway. Could be even more insane and fit an e.thirteen Supercharger bash ring... :)
Some photos with them on other bikes:

I saw that in the reviews and on their websites, but then I checked FlickR and found photos of set-ups which used only the cross lever and a brake (no extra road calipers on the end of the drop bars).

I have some sweet Avid V-brake levers, but they don't fit on my OS drop bars. So could I use the levers just on their own, as above, but with a V-Brake?
Apologies for the n00b questions.

My head is huge. It goes off most scales, measuring at 63 - 64 cm (depending on air pressure / tidal motion).
Hence the need to try before I buy, as even XXL sizes that claim to be big enough, seldom are big enough.
I have a similar problem. This place:

DID have XXL Bern Watts in stock, but I think they sold the last ones and more are due at the end of October.

I want to build a set of wheels for not much more than £150 but I'm a total noob and have no idea what's good and what isn't.
Anybody care to help?
I's say look on eBay. I got myself a pair of Mavic Open Pro rims laced to Goldtec Track hubs which would have cost about £300 new, for £112. Check on the Classifieds section of this forum too. You have to be patient, but you'll end up with a nice wheelset for a good price if you're smart.

Been reading a bit about these and decided I've got to have one. Next project after finishing the Pompino I think...
26" Dirt Jump/Street/4x frame made by S&M in the USA.
Frame only it's £660 from CRC, but can be imported from the US for about £380. Pretty sweet.

you can see why a zero rake fork work well in speedway.
WTF is up with that freaky midget with the big bling bling round his neck!?
My build should be done in a week or so, so I'll post it up here then...

Guys this is a pretty long thread and given that I'm at 'work' and all that I shouldn't be paffing so much. BUT - quick Q.... if I get a bag off the net (whatever I decide on) am I going to get stung for import duty or whatever its called in the UK? I'm Aussie so don't understand how it works and well it may make a massive difference as to costs and where I end up buying from. Ta.
Import a second-hand one from the US (check eBay.com), and when the seller posts it, ask them to INSURE IT FOR LESS THAT YOU PAID FOR IT. For instance, if you pay $200 for the bag, ask them to insure it for $50. Then you won't get charged import taxes, and there's a very slim chance of it getting lost in the post anyway. I've done it with a few high-value bits of kit.

Sweet. Thanks for the info. Basically, my ideal set-up at the moment would be the Salsa Cross Levers, Deda Newton OS drop bars, and Avid Single Digit Ti V-brakes. I don't really want to have to use big unsightly drop bar levers, or different sorts of brakes, or flat bars. Fussy I know.
