I've got to pay one and send in my licence to get points, but will be out of the country and need my licence in case the bike breaks down in the middle of nowhere and I need to hire a car. I get back on the day after I have to get my licence to them.
Does anyone know if they're likely to give any wiggle room on this, or where I could phone? The police don't have any phone numbers other than 999 - it's one of the ways they keep crime figures manageable, I suppose.
Without meaning to be rude, why dont you just get your bike into working condition before you go an take decent amount of spare tools incase you break down.
I cant drive and I've never needed to because my bike broke down.

cyclotron3k, because 'aidan' was taken. So 'cyclotron' invokes thoughts of physics, but also connotes cycling; two things I have an interest in. The 3k is pure whimsy.
Well I wasn't as inventive as cyclotron3k. I'm 'dan because Aidan was taken.
I thought i was being clever but it just looks like my name is dan and i threw in some punctuation so I appear at the top of the members list. Maybe I should have been Aid'

I thought the list might be more use with brief reason why each item is not true. Here is my attempt but i have skipped some which i dont agree on/ dont know the legality / couldnt think of a quick response
- Cyclist don't pay road tax ----- Road Tax doesnt exist roads paid for by all kinds of general taxation
- Riding a bike is dangerous ---- Everything carries a risk, accidents per cyclist km are very low
- All cyclists jump red lights ---- Some cyclists are just as annoyed as you about RLJing
- Pavement cycling is dangerous and evil ---- it might not be but it is illegal
- Cyclists must use cycle lanes where they're safer ---- Recent CTC campaign stopped this becoming law
- The best way to be safe is to wear a helmet ---- lots of preventative steps you can take also see 2
- Cycle training is only for n00bs ;) ---- Actually can be enlightening, i'm sure someone has some stats on this too
- Cyclists should keep to the left out of the path of cars ----- no, take the primary position.
- It's OK for motorists to stop in a cyclist ASL -----
- Cyclists should get registration plates, insurance and licences ---- No (cost and lost health benifit outweigh gain)
- Cyclists should be made to wear lycra and day glo jackets ---- drivers should look where they are going
- Most bike accidents are the cyclists' fault ----
- Badly ridden bicycles present the same threat as badly driven cars ---- Force = mass x acceleration
- Cyclists should be segregated from traffic ----
- red light jumping on a bike is really dangerous ----
- Speed limits apply to cyclists ---- they dont but there are offences such as cycling furiously etc
17 Cyclists should obey all rules that pertain to car drivers (e.g. one way streets) ----
18 bikes should have a bell ---- only need a audible alert and most of us can shout - you can be arrested for being drunk in charge of a bike ----
- On a bike it's best to filter to the front of the queue at lights down the left ---- filtering can be dangerous / legally overtaking is done on the right in most situations.

I'm 6 foot on the dot. You can see how high I have the seat post for comparison. I would say that it fit me perfectly and that at 6'3" it would be fine. Have you taken a look at the sizing info on the on-one website? http://www.on-one.co.uk/help/what-size-bike/
If your local just pop over with your mate and take a look. PM me for my address etc - Crystal Palace just at the end of the new overground line.

logo count from a sparse 15 to a still restrained (by Look standards) 18.
@ RJBHurst fair point, I've never been to the Drakensburg on my bike!
Lesotho only has about 3 roads anyway you'd be better off taking your helicopter license :-)
