I like a horizontal top tube, I'm old school

Threadless was the plan all along. If I build a steel fork then why not? I am leaning towards 1" because I like the current set up so much, tapered headtubes are ugly and 44mm is heavy. I understand that there is a lack of 1"carbon forks but they do exist(wound ups for example).

And is a 1" fork a terrible idea?

Any thoughts on full stainless dropouts as opposed to stainless faces on mild dropouts?

I would prefer to have a smaller front triangle for stiffness which is the reason for the extended headtube.

The slightly extended headtube will do away with the current spacers.

Yep that's pretty much correct. The above pic was taken with stem flipped I often ran it with the stem downward pointing depending on the type of riding I was doing.

I should mention my original frame was built by Atom and is of superb quality I only hope to do it justice with the replacement.

Having spent the last few years honing my skills with torch and file I now wish to build myself a bike, a bike for life type of bike, I've been riding the current iteration for about 5 yrs and I am very happy with the set up.

My plan is to build an updated version using an 853/953 mix. I am still considering a steel fork but there is no stock of max fork blades at ceeway won't be for some months which would be my preferred choice. If I do go with a steel fork I may well go all out and build a custom stem/bar also. Build will be full DA7700. The others components are still to be decided upon, I will stick with tubs as they work really well for me.

This is the bikcad design which sticks very closely to the current set up geometry wise.

Fork jig in action. It is fairly basic but works, I would perhaps update the design slightly if I was to make another.
