Can't argue with that^^^^^. Another thing I remember from lots of pain is to keep taking the painkillers on a fairly regular basis - if you're just taking them when you start to feel the pain, you'll always be half an hour too late, and tempted to take too much etc. If you know it's going to hurt for the next few days, just work out a safe schedule and stick to it. Obviously this is for acute pain, don't take painkillers constantly for weeks.

WRT prescription opiates, oramorph is the most effective painkiller I've used; it was the only thing that did the trick when I fucked my hand. It also seemed to have less side effects than tramadol, at least for me - I felt a bit funky, but tramadol and co-codamol just made me feel ill. Don't know if you can get it on prescription, worth an ask I guess. Also, keep on the ibruprofen, it really helps with swelling. Good luck!
