York: Tuesday morning @ 08:30
Bin lorry didn't see me and turned right into me at road junction.
No time to avoid.
Managed to hit him sideways on, and "shoulder-barge" rather than head on collision.Smacked the windscreen with the side of my helmet, then bounced off and down.
Result:
- fractured windscreen (aww)
- bruised shoulder
- twisted bars
- a few cuts and bruises
- a very apologetic company manager offering to pay for repairs asap.
I didn't report to the Police, but have witnesses and photos and admission from driver.
I just consider myself lucky, and will probably get the price of a nice new pair of wheels out of them (and a replacement helmet!)
Any recommendation on wheels then?

Prices?
Pictures?Sorry - not quite awake this morning!
Pictures will be posted this evening
Prices- I'm not really sure what to charge for most of these. I'd appreciate any pointers. I'll have a look on eBay this evening for a guide, then knock a bit off. Sound reasonable? In the meantime I'd be open to offers or PM for further details.
Cheers.

Road bike & track items for sale
I’m having a clearout of my garage and have come across a few old (unused) and new bits.
1) Dura Ace 7700 crank arms 170mm --£50
2) Ultegra SPD-SL pedals – cosmetically scratched, but straight, smooth and true --£35
3) Planet X road stem 110 mm -- £15
4) 1/8” 14t sprocket unused -- £10
5) Boxed unopened Dura Ace 8 speed chains (3 of). NB running new 9/10 speed narrower chains on older kit causes problems, so these would be great for your old 7 or 8 speed classic. I can’t remember how, but I managed to get a few of these and used them on a 8 speed Campag record set up for many years, and have 3 unopened ones left -- £20 each
6) Tektro drop bar levers – brand new unused (taken off new Kona Paddywagon) - £15
7) Kona stem new (taken off new Paddywagon) -- £15
8) Kona drop bars new (taken off new Paddywagon) -- £15
9) Shimano Deore DX 7 speed thumbshifters unused – still in their packet - £35 -- SOLD
10 Shimano 10 speed cassette 12-25 brand new unused. I’ve just bought a pair of brand new wheels (taken off a showroom Boardman pro), and they still had the unused cassette attached -- £30
11) Dura Ace double chainring bolts- these are superlight (6g on my scales, compared with my standard steel set at 20g) -- £10
Photos available this evening.

You need to earn enough to still be paying tax at basic rate AFTER you have the "salary sacrifice".
Obviously, if you are paying tax at 40% then you will save 40% tax rather than basic rate.
If you are VAT registered then you can reclaim the input VAT as well.
You will also not have to pay ers and ees NIC on the salary sacrificed. There are 2 other things to consider:
could you not get the company to buy the bike, to be made available for its employees for business purposes only? (so no Benefit in Kind). You would reduce the company taxable profits by the full amount of the bike's purchase price, so would be paying less Corp Tax. You wouldn't have to charge anything to the employees for using it for business purposes...
Obviously it depends on what kind of business and business travel you do!if it's your own business, then you #might# want a monster bike. I've heard of the CS being used for a £6,000 beast! The only restriction is that the company must apply for its own consumer credit licence (@ £75 and probably a bit of form-filling) if it wants to go above the £1,000 standard limit that the CS allows.
you have complete flexibility over which scheme to use. I'd err towards the one that allows you to use Planet X or your local bike store, if it were my choice...

I don't have them in front of me, but they look similar to the ones here
http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/pedals/product/ultegra-6620-spd-sl-road-pedals-16856
I will have to check later to see whether there are different versions of the SL pedal so I don't mislead you inadvertently!(I've not been in the cycling game really since around 1995, so I'm rather out of touch with these kind of new -fangled bits of kit).
If there's such a differential in price between the SL and classic SPDs, it might be wiser for me to get a bit of cash thrown in with the swap!
I'll try and get some pics up tonight so you can see what I have.

Building up my Langster, and I've got nearly to the end.
However I need a couple of things to finish this off:
- drop bar road aero levers - (obviously) not Ergopower / STI!
- road spd pedals (not the modern SPD SL fancy ones)- all my others are the early 90s 2 bolt spd road pedals (Dura Ace, Ultegra, 105) so I'd like to continue the theme
- road shoes. My existing ones are coming apart after many miles of service, so if anyone has a spare set of size 46 road shoes with 2 bolt spd holes then I'd be keen...
- drop bar road aero levers - (obviously) not Ergopower / STI!

They USED to be dealing with a lot more companies than they do now. wouldnt bother with the boardman as its a heap of crap. go paddy wagon for fixed/SS, or merida/cube/felt for road bikes!
I liked the look of the Boardman team carbon- seemed a pretty impressive ride for £1000 - that works out at around £50 per month for me...
I'd stll rather a Planet X though, but can't under the Halfords scheme.
-
not quite - I asked them to order me a PlanetX but they said they can't. Like the look of the boardman but not really what I wanted.
Planet X and Wiggle used to deal with the Halfords scheme, but no longer do so.
They threw their toys out of the pram after apparently being charged a kickback on each bike of around 10%.
They do their own schemes (Cyclescheme?) - see details on their websites.Halfords scheme is still quite flexible - I managed to get a Brompton off mine, and colleagues have managed to get Cannondales, Treks, and even a Focus (before Wiggle stopped playing).
I do wish that my employer (a LARGE insurance company) would sign up with the Cyclescheme though. I'd rather the choice of LBS and giving them my trade, than going to Halfords.
Saying that: I will be getting another just as soon as my current deal matures.

Thanks- the reason I asked is I've found a few bits and pieces stored for years in my garage - and am looking to get rid of them.
I've got a nice track Dura Ace 7600 170mm spider circa 93-94, and an (almost) matching DA 7401 LH 170 arm.
I've also got a Campag 52 t ring (used) and a 42 t unused Sugino, hence my question. I know I got hold of these when I was planning to build up a track bike in '94 - '95, but lost heart after a real bad TT accident and my cycling never recovered.
I have absolutely no idea as to whether the rings are 1/8 or 3/32. The Sugino looks to have no "profiling" on the teeth, so it might be track specific.Sorry if this sounds a bit like an advert...
(also got a pair of wide flange hubs to get rid of as well)
Thanks guys. I'm off to the police tomorrow morning, as well as to A&E to get stiff shoulders / neck and bruised knuckle looked at.
Adrenaline is a decent analgesic! But two days on I'm a little stiff and sore and reckon I really ought to get it "formalised".
