The Nikon D3000 support AF-S lenses only... you won't get autofocus with an older "D" style (aperture ring) lenses like the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D AF.
If you want a good prime lens for portraits I would highly recommend either:
Nikkor 35mm 1.8 AF-S DX
Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AF-SRead some reviews and decide if the 50/1.4 is worth the extra cost
Edit: Just read your budget - £30-60 for a lens?!

Ooh that's very useful, thanks. AF-S it is then.
I like the look of the fisher price :) 30 - £60 I think is OK for 2ndhand - I missed out on nabbing a AF-D in great condition for £60 a few weeks back on this forum, and I know the older ones can go for around the £30 mark. But, as you've pointed out, I seem to have got my letters wrong anyhoo.

Cheers for advice peeps, interesting forecast of Nikon drought, although HK is more China than Japan, and Nikon stuff is officially manufactured in Thailand innit?
still, pm me if you have anything knocking about though, as I know my gf would prefer to have something before we hit the shops over there anyway! keepin options open and all that

Holla!
Going to HK in a few weeks. My girlfriend wants a lens for portrait style shots, and knowing how many photographers there are on here, I thought I'd put out the feelers for a second hand Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D AF lens or similar Nikon-compatible 50mm lens.
It doesn't necessarily need to be the one for the DSLR (she has the entry-level D3000) - as I understand it with my limited camera knowledge, the Nikon-compatible lenses that are just for regular SLRs work too and tend to be cheaper. I don't think it needs to be AF either...
Looking for something in the £30 - £60 range - the cheaper the better really!
PM me if you have owt. Cheers!

Think it had the headbadge on? Either that or my superspot skills enable me to distinguish all bikes without headbadges!
hehe yes that was me! i was also checking out the goldness of your gold bike through my tired eyes, very nice. yep, the frame and forks are new but how did you know it was a leader? i didnt stick the headbage on untill the other day... memory also fuzzy.... and hair/helmet combo is pure win BTW. will say hi next time:)
This morning, old street, guy with a white catlike helmet, Sag messenger and a tomato-coloured bob jackson with black/gold detail. nice silky riding.
Also there's some imposter with a gold Create in almost the same colour as my bike. Seen friday eve. Made me gag. I was disappoint.

yesterday morning hackney road, guy on a fixed green Leader, black forks, black rims (I think, it was yesterday so memory's fuzzy). Looked new, really nice slightly metallic racing green on it - just looked sharp, and suited you. I was the girl on the gold bike with bits of afro bursting out of a white helmet, eyeing up your bike in what probably looked like an ominous manner. But it's just cuz i liked your ride! hi if your on 'ere

I am part of the 5th Floor crew, but I know nothing about this, as I wasn't there (I flit in and out, busy busy busy)... so I can't say what actually happened. But, I have been part of similar 'beefs' with the crew and other ex-members who have gotten pissed off for some reason. There was one situation, whereby an ex-member was constantly trolling and threatening fights etc (the crew as a whole had stopped speaking to him since he had done some ill-considered petty criminal act), and that ex-member somehow managed to get a few more people on board without those others knowing the full story. A Face to face meeting, that was prefined as 'no violence' was arranged in that situation, to speak properly about whatever each side considered the beef to be, but said ex-member kept chickening out of the meet, yet continued to exacerbate the situation from afar with threats. So he was just ignored, and eventually he went away.
I could make a guess as to what happened with Loic, based on what's happened before (not just the above situation). All I'll say is, nobody should make any presumptions without knowing any actual facts, since stories can get misinterpreted based on speculation and certain presumptions (ahem, "thick middle class white boys, grow up and get proper jobs"). I'm not saying the the crew isn't to blame since I don't know the details, but I'm just concerned that this thread is very damaging, since the speculation is very one-sided.
If indeed, Loic was 'jumped on', as opposed to a situation getting out of hand and into some kind of scrap-come-fight, then that is not on. Violence is avoidable (although I have had someone start a fight with me, and it's pretty hard to not fight back), and nobody should be started on in the way that people are saying he was.
I also agree, that the pretend meeting to collect a bike was a bad idea, presuming that's what actually was the premise; but again, speculation.

Coming out of Hoxton square/street onto Old Street heading westthen took a left on St John's street: guy on a nice deep pink frame (pink like that 2010 Vigorelli, but it wasn't one) with what looked like Nitto Noodle chrome drops, wearing mostly black garb, helmet, and red messenger bag. On here? I was on the all gold bike, white helmet, lilac jacket. Allo!

Hey tash!!! Is that a new bike?!
and what is that helmet? It looks like you were sporting a baseball helmet.
And yeah, shame on me... But sadly from behind, with winter kit on and bags and helmets everyone is sexless...
It's been my everyday bike for over a year now, tis a 14 Bike Co custom job. Haven't seen you about in awhile though so that'll explain lack of spottage. True dat about sexlessness, although not in the literal sense, I'm still getting plenty :)
Helmet's the Bern Watts snowboarding helmet - it has a patented 'peak' thing on it, which I guess gives it that baseballesque look. Having a closer-fitting snowboarding-style and peaked helmet saved my face from worse scarrage the last time I took a spill (fucking peds stepping out), but sometimes it looks a bit odd since I have to squeeze the 'fro into it!
hey interested in the "one Sony Mini DV camcorder. £50 ono"
is it the Sony Handycam DCR HC19E Mini DV ? built in speakers ?
If so, DIBBBS! Need a camcorder to film a wedding over in HK for bride's grandparents who can't make it over :)
