Cold really set in. When i got off train in London I'd had the journey to dry off and warm up but my teeth were chattering while I was still in the station. Stuck a Metro in my jersey for the extra wind break on my chest.

Thanks all for the ride and good luck with the return leg. Hope there's some (perverse) enjoyment to be had. I got a train easily. Really had no legs today and would have been a burden if I'd ridden back.

I've only done it once. The first 2 hours were beautifully sunny and mild and belied the name of the ride. Then winter came on hard.

@amey loads of the famous climbs are concentrated in a very compact area. You'll be amazed how many you can hit in a day.

I'd say doing the sportives would make the bergs quite a bit harder. You want to be able to see the ground. And of course you don't want ppl stopping in front of you.
