A package arrived this morning. We just moved home, and had talked about building a house bike that can satisfy a few needs;
- work for long legs and also shorter ones
- live outside; get rusty and dirty without complaint, and be as bearably unappealling to thieves as possible
- utility utility utility. Big box for groceries? DIY box section front loader rack? Who knows!
- use some long-stay-low-end parts out of the parts bin
- small wheels, big rubber
So one (1) accidental Buy it Now later ... this arrived, and here we are. The end point is ill defined, but there is bag of parts that may or may not fit, a pair of wheels en route and a WTD list for missing parts. Next on the list is a new fork. Probably this (or similar).
First port of call will be a dress down on the rust and a check for holes. Will see how far we can get with a bit of elbow grease and a liberal application of kurust. Then I'll see what can be done with the BB. Interested to hear from anyone with a threadless BB going cheap, or a BSA BB tap and facing tool ...

I've had a few wheels from Taylor, no complaints.
Loads of good options.
https://www.taylor-wheels.com/20inch-bike-wheel-set-shimano-fh-tx500-7-10-blackI've been flirting with the idea of 2x1 or 3x1 gearing, but need to get the frame in hand.
FD is possible on the twenty with bit of fettling, but for the life of me bolt on derailleur hangers can gtfo. I've been wondering if there is meat enough to drill and tap the dropout itself for a tensioner, where the mudguard eyelet is.

Sound advice, but at this moment in time, it's either cotterless or bust.
Don't ask why, but this little exercise is mainly underpinned by the trifector of an odd drive side crank arm I aquired recently, a desire to ride something with small wheels with big tyres and a capacity to transport groceries.

Cottered is fine! (if there is no viable alternative).
Let's see how this goes ... I very well might take you or @littleK up on that offer, ta!

I've been surprised by the options out there for 20"
Also lots of cheap, but sound looking "junior MTB" 6/7 speed wheels out there. I've just taken a punt on a pair on ebay (no name 6/7 speed freewheel, alloy rims, 28 hole) for Β£15 with a view to get this built ASAP and wait for some BMX surplus to surface for the right price on eBay. Plan B is to build up some parts bin hubs I have on something like these when I have a bit more time.
The freewheel hubs actually make a bit of sense as I've been hoarding this freewheel converter jobby for yeeears that converts from freewheel to single (or fixed, if you're brave and have glue).

Enhance 34 to 46. Pull back. Wait a minute. Go right. Stop.
