Yep βΒ in this case the mudguard strut would still be mounted to the eyelet, albeit through the fixing plate (which is fixed in place via the mudguard / rack mounts). Point taken though.
@PepOne really nice idea but the deralleur hanger also has a protrusion for the dropout slot / axle (as apposed to skinnier QR skewer) which are both important to keep the derailleur in position and orientated. Also stacking these on the dropout would mean moving the hanger too far outboard for the derailleur to work properly.
Keen to try @Hulsroy 's sliding dropouts via Simba and see if it's what I'm looking for. If not then Plan B above (fixing plate) is an afternoon of work and seems feasible, at least to my bird brain.

Ha, we'll see. Currently I can't use above 32c as pushing any further back in dropouts causes cassette/chain to foul on the tensioner. Going to see what can be done to adapt / pervert to make it fit as needed.
Another non-brazed solution could be to drill removable hanger and drill / tap track ends and fasten that way. Thoughts?
Saying that, grinding off a braze-on might prove easier than filling holes once I'm bored of this folly and realise I should probably just go and build a bike that's fit for purpose.

Taking a leaf out of the book of @Hulsroy β 1x10 geared Pompino.
X9 shifter on modified swing clamp. Full outer cable (with swish cable tie routing). X7 10 spd derailleur on removable hanger. DT Swiss 350 hubs on th540 rims. The idea being it's easy to swap from 1x10 to fixed just with a wheel / chain / chainring swap.
Needs a bit of fettling stillβI want to cold set the spacing when I get a chanceβand also put a 36t cassette on, tidy up the baggy cable routing, etc. Still, it's working and fun. Only other drawback at the moment is I can't fit my Challenge 33c's and also have enough room for the tensioner on the removable hanger (the tensioner fouls the cassette / chain if wheel too far back in drop outs).
Now proof of concept done and working, thinking I might as well just get a hanger brazed on ahead of a new paint scheme in the Spring.
