Of course
The other option would be to buy some Rigida Sputniks at about £20 each. super tough touring rims. You can get them in 40 and 32. Forget 27" if you can get brake reach, it's a pain to get decent tyres. Fill any massive clearances with some tasty muguards.
Even on 27" the brake drop is 83mm! (From hole in forks to bottom of braking edge).
Believe me, I even have a spare set of 700's that are quite wide for beefy tyres, but it just looks wrong.

Innit.
Back of spoke card should read:
In loving memory of Paul Roantree
Profits from sale of spoke cards to go to Cancer Research or something.
I am pissing about in PS now but I haven't really used CS4 and it's a bit of an arse isn't it?!
EDIT: Joe already has something, but here's where I was when I got that PM.
Must remember to buy 2 this time as I always lose them in the winter.

Okay, I may have a 36h hub casing sorted.
So if I buy alloy 27x1-1/4 36h rim at SJS stocks (£20 for the Jetset), and the 32h rim from there too, but at £40.... Man £40!
Still not sure keeping that dynamo hub is worth it, as I can get a whole new wheel for £30 at Simpsons: http://www.simpsoncycles.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1487
Recommendations? I mean I think i should shell out the extra tenner (and whatever wheel-building costs there are if I fudge up my first two builds) and stick with the dynamo hub incase she ever saves up enough for some fancy lights.

I may ask Velocio if he can move this thread to Projects, haha.

Hello there!
Right, I have serious issue here I have been racking my brains all day.
I am restoring a quite beautifully made Coventry Eagle ladies bike for my girlfriends first 'London Ride', the hubs and wheels are the source of my torment.
The front is a 32hole Steel 27x1-1/4" Rim laced to a SturmeyArcher dynamo hub (that hopefully still works)
The rear is a 40hole Steel 27x1-1/4" Rim laced to a SturmeyArcher 3Speed hub that works perfectly, however, the rim is buckled.
All of the spokes are rusty and I don't trust them steel rims. Safety is my concern here, I love my lady very much and don't particularly want to contribute to a premature demise.
I want to replace the rims with Alloy ones so that they have braking power in the wet. I also don't like how 700C's look on the bike, even with chunky tyres the clearance is too large. So sticking with 27x1-1/4 is what I'm after. I also don't have the budget to source new hubs.
"But they don't make 40h or 32h alloy rims in that size, James!" I hear you cry.
You are correct, sir/madam. However! The lovely HilaryStone has some 27x1-1/4" rims for sale, that don't have ANY holes.
Before I purchase them (I am extremely tight on money at the moment) I want to know if anybody knows of how I would go about safely putting 40 holes in one, and 32 holes in the other, before I hand them over to a wheelbuilder with my hubs and some new spokes.
Ideally, I'd want someone with experience to do it for me, but if it's going to cost me an arm and a leg, I will consider doing it myself, however I will defo need to borrow some equipment. I have a powerdrill, but it's only ever been used to put up shelves...
I really hope you can help! I have tried to put everything in the OP but if I've missed something obvious let me know.
