lol "emo bikes" is exactly how i'd describe them...
yeah heavy bikes are better suited to ramps than say trails for example, but i wouldnt say theyre only good for ramps - i think they're really good for street as well, but then i suppose it depends on your riding style. i'd prefer a waffer fin bike for ramps just for the manouvrability, and for the knowledge that if i bail and it lands on top of me it's not gonna paralyse me. but i like a heavier (but not too heavy) bike for street. i can imagine a featherweight thing that you have to wear skinny jeans to ride, would feel good for doing wallrides, barspin hops, basically anything you need to get a lot of height for. perhaps for people who have more of a skatepark riding style that they bring to the street - riding a lot of banks, trannies etc. and doing whips and barspins, fufanu's, nose manuals etc. but when it comes to jumping off stuff, e.g. 180'ing down steps, and doing stuff on rails, whether grinding or stalling them i like the sturdiness of a heavier bike - anorexia bikes feel a bit wobbly to me... i suppose precise control is easier though,... again, i suppose it depends on your riding style. perhaps bike weight even determines your riding style to some extent.

And I dont even mean in comparison to the meagre, waffer-fin BMX's of nowadays. It's a Dragonfly Dfx (bet you don't remember them... Markus Wilke signature-ish frame, circa 2001) fucking hell it must be about 20Kg, perheaps more.
Thinking about the last time I rode properly, was probably the Custard Jam in 2004/5 or summat, doing 360 to fakie and barspin airs on this lovely quarterpipe, fufanu to icepick to fakie etc blah blah blah and now I can barely manage a 180 hop without pulling every muscle in my arms and back, wtf man. And earlier today the bike fell... well, didnt so much as fall, but simply leant on my toe, and in doing so it removed a big chunk of skin due to its sheer weightiness.
If that thing fell on someone it would paralyse them for sure. Mind you, if mine is this heavy then how heavy must the S&M Heavy as Fuck frame have been to deserve such a moniker?!

messenjah, hyperallah, dfp, aeronaught: i'm looking at you...
fuck that, i did bare mileage today, 8 drops near or beyond the outer ring road, including harborne, bearwood, winson green, handsworth, neachells and perry barr, plus the usual mileage in the city centre... got home too tired even to go to the shop for essential muscle repair agents (i.e. eggs), no way i would even get to kings heath, never mind warwick! by 7.30 i was enjoying a carb-rich plate of spaghetti with cherry tomatoes roasted with garlic, white wine vinegar & black pepper, fresh basil and parmigiano reggiano, and a dribble of extra virgin olive oil that has a very grassy, herby aroma and a peppery finish. so my glycogen reserves are hopefully replenished. however, i fear that i have not consumed sufficient protein throughout the day, so i may pop down the street and get some battered cod from the chippy

Does that still happen? At BMX jams everyone seemed to be shouting "YEAH" really loudly at whoever was riding. If you pull something rad like a truckdriver air to fakie, someone will shout "YEAH!". Or if you're name's Pete and you're trying a new trick, people will shout "YEAH PETE" in encouragement. Nowadays it seems quieter, probably as a higher proportion of bmxers these days have their heads firmly wedged up their own arses, therefore do not acknowledge skill and radness and determination in other people.

70 miles can be hard or it can be easy... it's all about how easy you make it for yourself. I thought 75 was easy when I was bogged down with 15 kilos of touring gear, but that's because I didn't put any effort in and stretched it out over about 8 hours. Plenty of Chocomel and baguettes and cheese afterwards, plus a bit of stretching and my legs felt great the next morning!
In contrast to that I've done a ride of no more than five miles, but because it was mostly sprinting behind a bus after a roller race my legs felt like they'd been stabbed and battered with fire extinguishers the next morning.

Anyone doing this? its only about 70 miles, piece of cake if you're freewheelin'.
