There wasn't an option of the original decals that i could find anywhere.
As it was I had to have one made up .
Agreed about the masking , still looks fab though.I'm sorry to have to call you an idiot too....tho idiot...The paint was fine...and it was the wrong size for you...tho it got painted anyway...that paint only managed to last 33 years...hhhmm..where's the messiah when you need him?
sighs deeply rolls eyes... -
Just look at the bike ...keep the spellings for grammar lessons ..
Surely when it's about spelling the names of the reallyt famous brands ...Madala...not Modolo...and people..ie Eddy *Mreckx...and *the stem being soooo high
It shys away from dyslexia and more towards someone arse and elbow not being acquainted properly?
Also....why reference Jan VZ...and not take a pic of his decals...I had a van Zuylen and some utter c*nt stole it...I still miss that bike...apease the baying crowd ...take a pic of the VZ decals...please
And one other moan...you may have had it serviced...wash it...and polish it...

Having said that...having looked that the photos...I wouldn't be worried about the tob tube...the drive side chain stay looks squiffed...and the non drive side seat stay...
tho...that said...whose to say that couldn't be worked into the price...and finding someone to straighten it...?
what I find so offensive is that people are making all sorts of remarks about the seller that are quite frankly offensive, without any obvious grounds for doing so other than jealousy?
-
Comparing this sale to the value of classic cars is ridiculous. How often do classic car collectors pay premium prices for cars they have only seen online, that have no record of provenance, that look like they have possible structural damage, where they can have no basis for good faith in the seller?
Oh...purlease...What is with you downer idiots...and when I say idiots its based on your continual misunderstanding of these frames...No it isn't like someone finding a skanky allegro with original square steering wheel...
It's Cinelli Laser...which if we are continuing the classic car analogy...thats the equivalent of finding a Works Cooper 'S' in a barn...it doesn't really matter who drove it or that it didn't win a rally, it's the fact that at the time they were made...they only made 300...that they were made by cinelli...that they were groundbreaking...and that despite 300 being made...not very many of them pop up for sale...especially ones that have been sitting in a barn for 30 years...
Every time someone digs out a classic piece of sporting history, ie something really fricking rare...ears are pricked...
If this was a works cooper and had been found, there would be all sorts of people willing to buy it despite not seeing it in the flesh, the same sort of fervour would be seen...
As for the remarks about it only being seen 'online', it's lack of provenance, and the 'possible structural damage'... these 'assertions' aren't really fair, as it's pretty obvious the frame is a cinelli laser, its provenance is neither here nor there as the seller isn't claiming it is a particular riders frame, and it's obviously a stupidly rare Laser...not some bodge job with a tub of car filler, and that 3 were found together adds to the assumption they are genuine. As for the 'structural damage' that again seems rather spurious to as when you look at the rest of the photos it looks straight.Claiming the seller is a charlatan based on the fact he is young and from russia is bordering on the xenophobic.
If the frame was a lemon, and that's a damned big if... then hey...whose to say he wouldn't be straight about it and offer you a refund? There hasn't been a price mentioned yet...so yes that's annoying... tho this obvious case of sour grapes just sounds like jealous old men getting their Y fronts in a twist.

I just need to add tuppence to this...To see this kids face on the bus with the Lasers is classic...and whatever he gets for the frames, is well deserved.
Those that have started the the hate campaign already...'paid nothing, transported badly'...'wouldn't buy from a russian'....fucking hell, please stop whining, WTF? most of us don't give a fuck that you are so down about it, if it was you what difference would it be?I once scored a 1961 mini cooper that had been sitting in a garage for 28 years and came with a shed full of super rare spares ...for £600...I sold the pristine works H4 carbs for that, and nearly the same for a set of magnesium minilites...I had the same face as the kid in the laser photo, and was nearly the same age....21...then wow...last year...the mini cooper loaded with super rare spares and a 5k engine-100bhp motor, that I had spent nearly a thousand hours restoring and I had owned since 15...was fucking stolen...
Whatevers...
He got the Lasers, he also got the Rossin...at the moment 'the kid' is on fire and he can feel the pull of rare steel whenever he walks past an old building...you focus on something and it appears, you desire old bikes...they appear...
Lets show him some love...and thank him for dragging these into the sunlight, and them not ending up getting sold for weight on the back of a flatbed destined to end up as a recycled steel ingot...?
It will end up being ridden and built and Enjoyed which is the main thing...

What's one bobby going to do... they need an extended undercover operation where they not only bust the people selling but get at the entire network of thieves and buyers and choppers. Busting the odd BL seller isn't going to make a dent in the organised crime that is bicycle theft these days.
Busting the odd BL seller...? they are there every week.,..same people...same dodgy shit...I'm not even talking direct action...we go down...we buy the bianchi at 50...we then give it back to the rightful owner...who would probs be very happy to give £50 to get it back...
the police are doing very little that actually looks constructive...
I'm not talking 'one bobby' I'm talking the 'cycle task force'...thats 12...can anyone else name a bigger bike theft hotspot in the whole of the City?...nope...didn't think so... -
Seen Today (SUNDAY) on brick lane...
70's bianchi..quite nice...celeste green...columbus ...not gas pipe...mixture of parts tho stronglight cranks, NR front brake, campag hubs on mavic rims...
Also...Colnago...90's loud paint job...mirage 8 speed gruppo...was told it was bought in west london this morning for £50....We really need to go down there and buy these bikes ...
the bianchi went for £50...I told the woman that bought it it was probs stolen and she just shrugged her shoulders...english wasn't her mother tongue...
we need to try to buy them or others that turn up...it's not really going to encourage them they are fucking incorrigible as it is.....at least if the forum has them there is a chance we can reunite them with the owners, it's hardly handling stolen goods if we are trying to give them back to the rightful keepers?
I felt sick not being able to get them and try to return them...
and even more pissed of the the Cycle F*cking task force...aren't there every fucking week doing something...
WTF???? are they for...It drives me wild ...what the fuck do they do on sunday mornings? why are they not on brick lane as a matter of course...
We managed to get my mates bike back 3-4 weeks ago....it was stolen on outside the premises rehearsal on saturday night...within 8 hours it was stripped and about to be painted black...we got to them before the painting started...
We should complain on mass it's totally fuking ridiculous...the amount of obviously stolen shit there this morning was ludicrous.
Oliver..regardless of what the thief wants...they will get it...it's us that are getting mugged off in this situation...I would have happily shelled out today on the bianchi...
If it wasn't pinched...we can offer them to people that have had them pinched...at least something proactive.,..the police are seeming to be bloody useless...
why wouldn't they be down there all the time knowing it's going on..it's as tho they have an interest in not getting involved...they are happy enough to chase people up and down the street handing out tickets for 60 quid in angel for RLJ...tho not for catching bike thief scum red handed?

This is a really nice project! The color of the frame looks very nice and the decals are also top notch. Did you apply them on top of the clear coat? Also, might I ask have you removed the anodising on the Campy cranks? The Americans seem to use Easy-Off oven cleaner, but that isn't available in Europa as far as I know.
they're campy copies...;) they're good value, (I'd prefer them with the opaque anodising tho) and they do look nice, I agree with picking out the 'M' on the fork crown, and also the lugs would look lush in gold with the decals, even maybe some gold boxing on the forks or seat tube, ,quiet a few pugs from that era that were french imports had loads of detailing compared to the english market equivalent.
Alot of the late 60's early 70's bikes had quite a lot of detailing even those that weren't too expensive, tho whatever you choose I think you are doing well with the styling, the colour is really nice, and as you don't see it that often it does stand out.
Without rambling on, I so like bikes getting a 'sympathetic' restoration, when I was 'doing' cars the tricky part was not making them look too fresh, I once saw an amazing D-type Jag that the guy had restored and the attention to detail was phenomenal, he'd corroded all the fresh ali with special concoction of salt water and other secret ingredients, so that everything looked as tho it had been used for 40 years, the build was 4 months old and looked like it had been rolled out of dust covers after sitting for an aeon.
I always aimed for that and to see it done so well, really helped me with further restorations, my Cooper (before it was stolen) any part that was too 'new' I set about to age a little bit, I buried the newly stamped engine and body number tags in wet salty rags in the garden for 3 months. Which sounds a bit mad tho they looked so good when I dug them up.
Thats what is so nice about some of the bikes we are seeing from the Netherlands...It helps with people restoring bikes so that our frame of reference is continued, even tho we are quite used to seeing super original bikes on here... out in the real world, unless you are a cycle geek and go to jumbles, you don't see that that often, anything used on the street is always some bastardised version for the persons own preference over 20-30 years...I'm all for hipster sleds...some are slick and I do like them tho like I always go on about (me ...never...;D) the romance and patina that you get from bikes that were from the golden age of cycling hero's ie Taylor, Coppi, Magni or Merckx...
Now the sanitised sporting world would never allow Magni to race with a broken collar bone...even then win a stage with a broken collar bone and a broken femur in the middle of a snow storm...
Which bring us back to your project, attention to detail is the key, as old builders generally had more time, they could fart about with detailing more... or
Anyhow...back to your build...nice, keep up the good work, things that are prepared well ride better, it's all a bit zen tho it's tru, anyone that has built a lot of bikes will tell you it's the small things make the big things better...People go on about the purists on here and other forum going for function over form with old groupsets over a new 11 speed, tho a well set up bike with old components rides well, and you know your riding, I used to be tired after driving the cooper and music was a bit lost in the sound of the engine. because you were involved, you had to drive it...it didn't drive itself. I think that's a little like old bikes...tho the tiring thing is different, they aren't really tiring...just more involving. I find new bikes...a little bland, I rode a new bmc the other day...and it was nice, it was a good ride, it was fast... I could get used to it...and If I was in a competition I suppose I would use one, but just didn't do it for me. Wow...now I am rambling...keep up the good work.

Hey Peeps,
I have a pair of Campagnolo Victory brakes for sale. I think they are 1988.
They are in really good condition, they are clean all over with very minimal wear the fronts are super clean and on the backs have some small specks of corrosion, tho the springs and backs of the caliper arms are like new. The front brake is better than the back overall tho both are very good.
They come with the original grey brake pads (with the skinny campag nuts and washers) that are virtually unused, the cable adjusters are clean and the white rubber o-rings are spotless. They are recessed nut fitting with the original campag star washers.
There are a few tiny speckles of rust on the domed pinch bolts and the quick release levers.
The front Brake is about 8.5/10 the rear about 7/10.photos to follow friday.

I'm really pleased you utilised your further education to educate yourself further, ie you actually used your time to achieve something, and not done a phd on madonna's career (everytime I think of that I wince)...
Can you be a little more involving tho...ie ......I like how you stiffened the main 'triangle' (in your case a quadrangle) with the struts for the carrier....tho...explain what you did with the forks? how you got over the super long steerer tube issue? did the guy from the bike shop tap the bottom bracket threads for you?
One other moan...it's Pain Stake...ie like you would stake a bet...
Other than that...looks ace...well done...;D...there is hope. -
Once again such beautiful steel...why one earth would you buy something new when this is on offer...and will keep it' value and still ride like a dream in 5-10-15.... years...
Also...Kathrin...Eddy is an Ace person, all the bikes he gets are super low mileage, or have been owned by total fanatics...either way you get an amazing bike from someone you can trust...so riding it home is actually an option, something I would trust this bike to do...and not some shit heap from halfords....
bumpo... -
sorry but WTF?
Have you any idea what you could get for £500?
this all over...I'd like to say I understand ...tho I don't...If you were flinging £500 at something that didn't start life as a bag of shite...I would understand...tho you are not...
You are thinking of spending £300 on a bag of shite, which is still fucking stupid...Get on the forum, buy a frame worth restoring, and then throw 3-500 at that...this should be beater material, Peugeot even made nice frames, I had a guy with a beautiful 531 pro frame, and I had one that was 753.
if you want a pug...do that instead.I hate to piss on your chips further, tho you could have got the seat post from decathalon, for sub £20...they stock that weird pug size all the time...
If you need the headset and BB fitting...I'll do them for small fee, and I do mean small...if you are doing this then don't waste another armandf*ckingleg on labour...I'm on wheels and can do central london really...ie anywhere within 2/3 miles of the centre... or east...as far as the wick...
If you want it painted, either armourtex or mario vaz...I could do it tho to be honest...I wouldn't show it the love yu want it shown...;D...
Good luck with it..

Oh please, you sound like a teenager....There isn't a bicycle paint police, tho because of 'idiots' like you sometimes there should be...Especially when people seem to think they have the right to defend themselves when clearly they have fucked up. You didn't repaint a dawes galaxy...you didn't paint a mid range raleigh, you bought a rare frame that was made by a pretty legendary builder...not knowing what size you needed...then later, after deciding it was the wrong colour...you painted it...
Where in that paragraph do you see any need for clemency? Old poker face would be rolling in his grave...
So...You get your hands on an early celeste green bianchi...early 50's, it's a small frame...the paint is reasonable (considering its nearly 60 years old) the chrome is pitted...and you have no idea of the provenance...Do you paint it?
