People are passionate about polo... it's not a bad thing.
+1
Re. my comments and feelings, I've not intended to imply anyones been a dick...so sorry if anyone thinks that. I was just expressing my opinion about changing a fundamental playing rule...guess only because I'm protective and passionate in my own way about what polo has become to me and how i play within the current rules. I guess, if the 'world' of people were to revert against some of the current rules, I'd have to play along in the end.
I was also all in for the mix up team idea (ive got an awesome one after all ;-0 ) but i was just sticking up for a minority where the 'never played together' rule was being enforced a bit too hard ie not allowing DT and Sarah to play together is a bit of shame...its not a big deal to any of us if they did play, but to them esp Sarah, it means the polo world!
Anyway...enough going over old ground...sure the organizers will do whats best at the end of the day.

so.
how about the "BFF COMM" clears up why it made the decisions to ban ECMs when it put in a rule to allow whatever crosses the line to be a goal. Surely, it doesn't matter how the ball gets there?
Why not ban wheelcovers, ban lefties, ban 170+mm cranks, ban <28c tyres, ban the ball.
good point...why not ban other styles of mallets etc?

Mat, I have pay nearly £130 for the plane tickets, I dont have a choice
I understand your situ...thats the point i made re. why i think the rules/format of the tourney should have been confirmed before everyone felt they had to commit to teams etc. Still, youve come to hang with your friends at the end of the day.
I've heard a few more overseas players would attend if the tourney was to follow regular rules etc.
But what is done is done unless the organizers (JON) decides to change things.

As I first said, I respect those who are putting this together...but how I see it is the BFF is one of the most established tournies in the calendar esp in London. Therefore for me it's one I was looking forward to playing in with Cosmic...I know BAD liked the fact they are the defending champs from last year...but if the organizers want to change the format this year, thats their choice.
The problem I see is the way in which the format has been handled.
For a start, if the organizers are so set on having mix up new teams, then they should have selected the teams themselves by instructing all players to submit their names, then kinda seeding them each to create teams that are well balanced...experienced with new players etc. Instead what has happened is everyone rushed to get a 'super team' together in the fear of missing out.
Then the rule format has been announced after everyone selected their teams, which as a result has put some teams/players out as they want to be a part of the fun day, but not at the expense of playing polo which is different from the current established game.
I guess for some players (myself included), the current rules that essentially make polo what it is today is what we like to play. Personally, fun polo for me doesn't mean silly rule changes...but hey, I take polo too seriously all the time...so ultimately, i have a choice to play or not and at the moment thats still part of what makes polo cool...ie no one has ownership over it, so anything goes. you're either in or out.
so as you were BFFCOM

Scoring a goal and ball movement:
To score you may put the ball in the goal anyway you like. eg. Shuffle/Shaft/Shot/Scoop/Ball Joint/wheel/header. Anything that crosses the line is a goal (with the exception of the use of hands and feet). This includes a ball stuck in one’s spokes (riding into goal).
I respect the organizers for taking this tourney on, but in my opinion the rule above about scoring anyway poss is lame. I'm cool to play for fun, but changing some fundamental rules of polo and making it gimmick polo for me isn't right. Whats the feeling of others?
Also, why are the organizers so keen on stopping some players from forming teams ie sarah and dave...b and marc? Is it really that big a deal if they play together?

There are also the newly built courts in Hackney Downs, I've not looked there in the last month or so, but they were almost done then.
http://www.hackney.gov.uk/hackney-downs-improvements.htm
Unless anyone has been there in the last few weeks I'll head up there after work today and have a look.
this court had already been marked as the cosmic/apples home court...Damn you!!

On that note I took delivery of a ball that was brought over by a gent living on the Downham Rd that he found in his back garden.
If that sounds like anyone's (not you Gabes!) let me know.
Although I will be away for a week from tomorrow till next Saturday.that must be the one I shot off emmet...I'd sat that is yours Gabes
