Gino Bartali successfully used this trick during WWII to bring documents for partisans:
Bartali in wartime
Piazza Gino Bartali in FlorenceBartali has earned respect for his work in helping Jews who were being persecuted by the Nazis in the during the time of the Italian Social Republic. It emerged in December 2010 that Bartali had hidden a Jewish family in his cellar and according to one of the survivors, by doing so saved their lives [18]
Bartali used his fame to carry messages and documents to the Italian Resistance.[19][20] Bartali cycled from Florence through Tuscany, Umbria, and Marche, sometimes traveling as far afield as Rome, all the while wearing the racing jersey emblazoned with his name. Neither the Fascist police nor the German troops risked discontent by arresting him.
Giorgio Nissim, a Jewish accountant from Pisa[19], was a member of DELASEM,[21] founded by the Union of the Israelitic Communities to help Jewish Italians escape persecution. The network in Tuscany was discovered in autumn 1943 and all members except Nissim sent to concentration camps. He met Pope Pius XII and, with the help of the Archbishop of Genoa, the Franciscan Friars and others he reorganized DELASEM and helped 800 escape.
Nissim died in 2000. His sons found from his diaries that Bartali had used his fame to help. Nissim and the Oblati Friars of Lucca forged documents and needed photographs of those they were helping. Bartali used to leave Florence in the morning, pretending to train, rode to a convent in which the Jews were hiding, collected their photographs and rode back to Nissim. Bartali used his position to learn about raids on safehouses.[22][23]
Bartali was eventually taken to Villa Triste in Florence. The SD and the Italian RSS office, Mario Carità questioned Bartali, threatening his life.[23] Bartali simply answered "I do what I feel [in my heart]".
Bartali continued with the Assisi Underground. In 1943, he led Jewish refugees towards the Swiss Alps himself. He cycled pulling a wagon with a secret compartment, telling patrols it was just part of his training. Bartali told his son Andrea only that "One does these things and then that's that".[23]thanks for that, was completly unaware of that....a great man becomes even greater....NO PASARAN!

SRAM Force groupset and it’s been a complete revelation. Really comfortable and chunky hoods on the shifters and incredibly accurate and intuitive shifting. I was really worried that the short/long throw shifting with the single lever might prove to be inaccurate/ messy, but it’s been completely the opposite, spot on accurate and totally intuitive. As you can see I’ve become a convert, b
exactley as i would put it...cant fault it in any way shape or form...ill never go back to Shimano (has SRAM on me MTB's for years...)....
SRAM unfortunately suffer from being new kids on the block....but for me the performance and ergonomics FAR outstrip anything from Campag or Shimano.....good enough for EPO cheat (allegedly) Contador as well!
...but groupset debates always end up in Shimano/Campag sectarian bollocks so im out of here! ;)

^ it was nice....established, friendly and efficient......patronised by all sorts, not just activist types....
my 2p's worth....if it was me setting it up, i would definitely be going down the Co-op route....as Our Community Bikes proves, a not for profit (syndicalist) Co-op can be a reality....
BUT...it needs to be sharp/hip/cool......too many co-ops/community groups are populated by soap dodging vegan professional activist trustafarian wankers in my book (!)......no reason why a socially progressive endeavour cant be well lit/clean/modern aesthetic and OUTSIDE of the fucking activist ghetto!

good idea...
when i lived in Vancouver this place was just down the road;
http://www.pedalpower.org/?q=our_community_bikes
very handy place...
i think it was self funding via rental charges and 2nd hand bike sales....maybe worth dropping them a line?....run as an non-profit co-op, also trained folk with learning disabilities so maybe thats an avenue/alternative funding stream yould wish to explore?good idea though, i like it....

Has anybody run a belt drive fixed themselves?
Discussions of motorbikes is forbidden. Just want to hear from real people who have, or if you personally know someone who does.
not meself....BUT.....sold a Trek District to a guy last august, he's been using it all winter and hasnt cleaned it once!...bought it in for a service last week and it was seriously filthy, yet the belt didnt even need tensioning and was damage free, so i would say the maintenance free concept is well and truly proven
(still waiting on an alfine 11 to slap in the back of my (as yet unridden) District...)

[QUOTE=teome;1962822Thatcher's plans were more inline with anarchy than the vast majority of the ideals of self professed anarchists that I have read about or come into contact with.
[/QUOTE]
complete and utter bullshit....how the fuck is lining the pockets of the rich in line with anarchist thought?......Thatcher and her fellow Chicago School of Economics devotees are all about concentrating power and wealth ever more in the hands of an elite.....the exact opposite of all that Anarchists espouse.....Crisis Capitalism in full effect...

Take everything apart, polish them up and put it back, if you powdercoated it, it'll look very bland and typical.
From the picture, look like 30c is the max with the mudguard, if the light work with the dynamo - keep it, they're superbly useful.
black deep v unmachined rims will look *very *silly, check out Velo Orange's own rims, they're chrome and light (make sure the wheel is 700c), but the cheap and cheerful Mavic Open Sport will be more than enough.
you can get a kickback without coaster if you like, my advice is to put some centerpull brake if you wanted to keep up with the classic appearance of a typical Peugeot.
Here's an early 50's one for you to have a look at;

thats a peach...
...and maybe of use...2011 Specialized Globe Daily's have brake levers very much like those ^ ...not sure if theyre available as an accessory.....

....according to my mate at FP the white champs has sold out already....bugger...some mate he is for not getting me one... :(
