...about a third of the adjuster bolt has snapped off. The saddle rails have a bit of give, with quite alot of rust around the back plate....
I've got an old Wrights with a tear on the front rivet. I've used a bit of superglue. I know its not going to help that much or hold forever, but I'm just going to ride it till it dies.
TBH yours sounds pretty fucked all round so. If Brooks will repare for free or under £25 it may be worth it. Otherwise just do your best to look after it and love it while it lasts.

Tiswas
- really good to know that... I really want a stand, but when they're the price of some decent hubs... or even a 2nd frame... its hard to part with the cash. -
-
I think it may no longer be perfectly round... but I might try gentle coaxing first.
Here are the lugs for reference:

- I've Pm'd you31t®um
- thanks for the advice, you're prob right for that sort of price... I just always worry that frame work's going to end up being £30+ -

I need a seatpost for my Mercian. It has double butted tubing (501 or 531).
I've taken it to a shop to measure it.
Shop says the seatpost camp has been over-tightened at some point. This means that it is hard to tell what size it should take.
The *actual *measurement is 26.8mm.
They say it could have originaly been 27 or 27.2mm.
I called Mercian. They can't give me a definitive ans. but based on their guess as to year (1969/8-ish) it is likely to be 27 or 27.2mm.
I have the following seatposts:
- 26.6mm
- 26.8mm
- 27mm
All fit but are tight to get in.
I'm worried that if I put in a post that's too small, it's going to wiggle inside and bc it's DB it's even more likely to rub and fuck up the tubing.
So what do I do?
a) Use a 26.8mm bc that's the 'real' measurement (is there a risk of wiggle?),
b) Use 27mm bc that's prob what it orginaly took,
c) Have it repared (really, really don't want to do this bc of cost), or
d) Push a 27mm or 26.8mm down to stretch it a bit (maybe hairdryer 1st - but what if it gets stuck?).I've read these posts (here and here dealing with seatpost limit and this one dealing with going down 0.1mm and shims).
They got me thinking that I could shorten the seatpost to the min necessary as per tynans's pic:

... this would hopefully eleminate any rub.But it still means I have to decide which size post to push in.
I'm really sorry it's such a long post (excused the pun), but I just wanted to get all the info in the OP first time.

...I see a lot of builds from internet stores are laced to Shimano hubs, but not sure about them; from my searches here they aren't popular...
You do know that Dura-Ace are made by Shimano?
TBH from reading other sites I thought that Shimano were basically the best value hubs you were likely to get.
Also the goldtec deal above sounds perfect.
Also I just built a wheelset, and its not that hard (I know really good builders are ment to be really good, but I think building yourself is very doable)

It's a shame that anyone starting a new thread now has to start with saying 'I used the search, and found nothing so I started this one . . .' as an anti flaming device....
+1
...
My thoughts:
If...
Starting a new thread about a previously coved subject = bad;
Digging up a acient thread = bad; and
derailing/hijacking existing threads = bad
...then how the hell do people ask a question without being flamed?I think its about using a bit of common sence.
Starting a new thread about a previously coved subject = bad ***(if it's going over exactly the same subject - eg how to remove a headset etc.
*** Digging up a acient thread = ***IMO ONLY ever bad if its a for sale thread or just trying to get out of the nursary
derailing/hijacking existing threads = not really that bad in moderation
...my general thoughts on UTFS I used this site for ages before I ever signed up as a member. I find searching a bit tricky sometimes and sometimes I have to spend quite a bit of time looking thru posts....
...also some ppl are just twats.

bc its a similar subject I thought I'd pass this on...
... to put some life back into my Wrights I used Timberland leather nourishing cream, which helps to soften and replace the oils in the leather.
...and I know loads of ppl have stashes of these leather creams... so if you're looking for a cheap solution, go check.
