Actually thinking about this, is there an issues with pcv valve?
Seems to be a a thing now. If the car is running rough at idle, or down on power it could be a stuck pcv.
How would I confirm this? A code reader? - I have one so maybe I'll run it.
It's not noticeable down on power, but I don't drive like a hooligan but in sport it accelerates well enough from stop or at 30 up to 70 if joining a motorway.

Muayed is proposing to design a better bike light, to reduce the risk of cycling.
I'm certain the hive mind here can offer him some suggestions based upon experience,
not just of cycling at night,
but also the demerits of those bike lights already commercially available.tl;dr Aim: reduce the risk of cycling
Lots of good points have been made. A few have missed the stated aim imo.
The most important aspect is having lights for which the hurdles as I see it are:
- Rider memory (fixing, using and charging)
- Theft
- Cost
- Attachment
IME the following give best visibility:
2x body front and rear
2x body front and rear
Pedal reflectors/lightsTherefore I am sceptical that a light can offer a solution. On balance I think that an incredibly cheap light that everyone knows is cheap so won't steel with excellent mounting options is best.
From a drivers pov I'm not at all convinced that lights need to be amazing, just not shit and visible.
Pedals reflectors are by far one of the best ways at night to identify cyclists and £10 says that only 1% of people on here will have them on any of their bikes. I have only ever added black reflective tape to one set of aftermarket pedals.
- Rider memory (fixing, using and charging)

LFGSS and Microcosm shutting down 16th March 2025 (the day before the Online Safety Act is enforced)
I'm somewhere between denial and shock.
I came and lurked for all the amazing mechanical advice, then the Classifieds followed by Current Projects got me into posting.
Having this place, both as an outlet and irl drinks helped me through a tough period where I'd managed to sever my existing friendships and helped to rebuild confidence to regain them. The support and advice from this community has been invaluable. The knowledge and opinions here have informed and challenged me. The help on everything to DIY to parenting... honestly I could go on and on.
Thank you to everyone (especially @Velocio) for making this place what it is.

Sounds like a plan. I'd probably try not to go too niche on the tiles incase you want to partially match them down the line.
Given the relative low cost of tiling it makes sense to knock it out now. You could always look at doing it yourself to reduce costs. If you're employed, then there are a lot of bugs this time of year.

We had a wood floor installed around our existing kitchen. Trimming the plinth neatly is the main drawback, and it would mean cutting tiles or planning tiles to butt up against those places where the kitchen meets the floor. There is also a risk of damage to cabinets. Our guys were careful and we knew our existing kitchen wouldn't be perfect.
If you've got tiles then I wonder if there is a way to remove the current tiles where your new kitchen will meet the floor and install a temporary/semi-perm spacer. That way you minimise damage to the cabinets touching the floor, and give flexibility for tile size/layout etc. so it visually can flow under the cabinets.
Maybe also ask in the diy thread. Or would @Airhead have any ideas?
All that said tilers are used to working around objects. So doing it later is by no means insurmountable.

M1 MBA are ~£400 on ebay and £500 on CEX.
If money is really that tight that you can't stretch to £400 and it is just word processing, then I'd get a used small chromebook or put Ubuntu on a small cheap windows laptop. If you ask friends and family you might get something free. I'm sure if you post a wanted ad here and spam the pc thread you'd get something for <£100.
It strikes me as a false economy to spend more than £100 unless you spend the ~£400 on an MI MBA. Especially as you do have a working laptop, albeit not the one you want. #2p

Bedroom mirror needs a clean. But I got all my suits out. Well the ones here. I've managed to convince my folks to house a few too...anyway I realised the bargain summer linen suit is a sort of light blue and informal. So tried that with the thick pink t, and I'm happy enough with that.
Trousers are absolutely holding on for dear life, but the tshirt hangs over.
Stuck for shoes so despite my intense dislike of them, I was going to grab some black loafers. Logic being:
- it's still an evening thing
- the belt I want to use is black
- black will get more use than novelty ones
- brown shoes will look too "brown and blue wedding suit"
Any suggestions for socks? As for loafers I think I'll need a new pair.
- it's still an evening thing

Got Google Play to work by downloading and setting up Nova Launcher, then retrying Google Play.
Don't have the patience this time around to strip everything off the way I did with my eldest's. Which tbh was a bit of a faff. However, I think that one had the ads on the lock screen so I wanted it clear.
Annoyingly when you swipe up from the recent apps you can still see all the amazon shit they put on the home screen.
Irl it's so fucking jarring! I guess that's why they're so cheap. But fuck me using one with the default setup would be awful.

Got another Fire for one of the kids. But it's been so long since I did the Fire toolbox install (and I've only done it once to the other two) that I didn't think to read the guide online and I've already linked the tablet to my account.
Has anyone used the Fire Toolbox recently?
What I'm after is;
- Confirmation of a safe place to download the most upto date version (mine is v32.2)
- Whether it is that critical that I do the set up on a clean tablet
- If yes to 2. How best to wipe it and start again?
- What is the significance of OTA Updates and do I care?
Cheers
