Coming down the hill round the back of my house the other day going into town on my old commuter bike, was honking away and doing a nice pace by the bottom. Changed up a gear and the rear mech jammed, launched forward onto the toptube (crushed nuts >_< ) and just manged to grab the wobbling bars and straighten it out. I had to sit down for a minute just to stop shaking... would have lost alot of skin if I had lost it.
I think the cause was poor chain maintanance. I guess I now know that even the ratty old moutain bike needs looking after too...

Because I am a remarakbly indecisive person I would like the ablity to run my fixie both clipless (for longer weeked rides) and then also run it with normal shoes (for popping into town). Now I went to the velodrome at Newport a few months back and they had toestraps that clipped into the clipless pedals. This would be great for me but the only issue is that these were road pedals rather than SPDs.
Do you know if you can get these clip in toe straps for SPD's? I cant seem to find any at the moment...
Edit: Found a pic, although these do look a bit DIY... http://www.creekcats.com/pnprice/Bike05-Pages/toeclips.html
