The only thing that bugs me a wee bit is people selling trombones and cats and their mother in law... perhaps there should be an OT Classified for not bike stuff.
Aside from that I think that there is a strong enough userbase to prevent people getting extremely ripped off (eg unipack guy). Getting slightly ripped off is your own resposibility and after a few mistakes noobs like me learn fast.

About time I got my nag up :D
Always wanted a fixie since visiting the velo at Newport a few times, sadly student finances have meant that it has taken about a year to come to fruition. I got the bike minus wheels and saddle off the bay and set about cleaning it up a bit. Its a 1982/83 Coventry Eagle, its a Flite model so not Renolds but its nice steel. Thought it deserved a proper vintage Brooks too and I love it so far. The headbage isn't orginal, picked that up off the bay too although I think that it goes.

Ive never been properly happy with various cheapy saddles over the years but have invested in a Brooks Team Pro for my latest build and it is a dream and getting better... Unlike all the other saddles I have had I can comfortably ride in my civvies without chafing/soreness for 20 miles.
And the best thing is as long as you dont abuse them, they appreciate in value over the years... planning to sell it in 50 years time and make a bomb :D

Ok so it wasnt quite as bad as ed's experience but getting a pair of 28s on my thin rims cost me a good hour and a half tonight and 2 tubes.... hmmm, failiure of skill there methinks :p
After an quick run round they do feel nice, definately soak up the road buzz better than 25s but they dont feel too heavy or dead when accelerating. Skidding is also pretty good too, even for a fixie newbie like me... If they last like people claim then I will be a very happy penguin indeed.
Thanks for the consumer advice :) would never have picked these off the shelf without this feedback.

Making a bike yourself is half the fun - choosing all the different parts means you have something unique
Damn right, mine doesnt even look good but I know its mine and I created it so I have an attachment to it. If you love your bike it is then much likely to get neglected and try and kill you.... like my Halfords bike did many years ago :D

http://www.bikeman.com/PD1126.html thems what i was after... they dont look mighty durable though + i cant find any in the UK... I think they have dropped our of fashion somewhat (im sure i remember seeing some a few years back).
I think you guys are right, i'll go with some M324's + straps off the bay... they are a wee bit cheaper off there.

Doesnt easy remove mean that they get nicked? Although i suppose that that to the casual observer they dont look any different to normal ones...
Mmmm looks like them dual ones might be the best bet... 50 quid is a bit pricey for a beater though, i'll keep them in mind and try the DIY route... and then probably end up with them when my DIY lets me down :p
