yes, drive side..if you can figure something out to protect it..otherwise an alfine would be a better suggestion..

I use a nexus 3speed hub, not for polo though...but on my "city" bike..when it works its' perfect! But..the 3 speeds and all other nexus gear hubs got a problem that interior parts break and then it's useless. It happened to my bike unexpected, drove on it for 3/4 years with NO problems at all and on 1 day..broke.

For the exterior parts there is a shifter cable (pin) going inside the hub, you can take that pin out without any screws so if that pin breaks off IN the hub, you got a problem. The left thing goes on the pin:
