Thanks Skully, I'm going on the fact that the rear dropouts are not identical. The one which would have a hanger has a small potrusion (~2mm), where the hanger would come from, as if it has been sawn off, but not actually filed all the way back do the dropout. Before the respray, a visual inspection appeared to confirm this.
the flickr page has a similar bike. the headbadge is the same, they stopped using that one in 1963. I know my bike is before then. I realy want to know what model it is...
It's got loads of braze on's, cable guides for rear brakes on the toptue, front and rear brake drillings, cable guide on the bb shell, shifter mount and pump mounts on the diagonal tube...

Been there, they don't have any images which may help me to identify the model... I know it's a 1956 or '57, but I don't know what model. It's 531, with Nervex lugs...
The closest I have found in terms of description is a 1962 Super Nova (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/FGimages/Road_Test/Cycling241062SuperNovatest.gif) but it's too young... -

Good luck!
I needed 27" rims, I resorted to building. You can get 27's at SJS - http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/src/froogle/category-Rims--27-(630)-170.htm

for those wondering, it's either a 1956, a 1957 or a 1958 model (I think) and I'm certain those are Nervex lugs. they are identical to those on my Grubb frame (whole frame is simmilar, only mine has dropouts not track ends)
the headbadge has been repainted, it doesn't quite look like the original colours though. Picture of my headbadge coming up...let me find the camera...

Ok, I have a frame manufactured by F.H. Grubb. Original headbadge is present, so I know it is pre 1963. It has Nervex lugs, the catalogue (I don't know the date) is here: Flickr Photo Download: nervex p.17
The guy who uploaded that catalogue (found via google) thinks it is ~1958, which is what I thought (1957) but I don't know what model the bike was...
I would be very interested if anyone has any knowledge on this, or, knows someone who does, to help me identify the frame model and year... the serial number is 14400. This is stamped on the bb shell (along with NERVEX) and on the steerer tube on the forks.I am not restoring the frame, the deralieur hanger has been filed off, so, I'm doing a fixed.
Pictures on request.

So, I have seen driled parts online for sale (specifically sugino chain rings etc) and I quite like them... problem is, they aren't common and I keep missing them. My questions are:
Does the drilling weaken the part to the point that it is likely to fail under normal riding conditions?
Does anyone here ride a drilled chainring? Any comments?
Finally, (and possibly, madly) Has anyone here drilled their own chainring before? I have seen a few webpages of people who have done it, and I have the facility to do it properly with a dividing head... I know about countersinking to prevent stress cracking around the holes.
Thanks :-)

I was looking for some of these... Beware of the steel single wall rims, uless you really want period, they are quite heavy. I think sjs do a built up, and they definately do rims on their own. You could grab hubs seperately, I am sure someone has some, and dogsBalls will build if you ask him nicely ( I plan to for my 27"...)

See title. I would like to borrow one...
Thanks :)
