The sugar is strictly optional, but it brings out the full flavour of the tomatoes nicely. Otherwise it can end up tasting a bit thin and acid-y. Onions and garlic are good too, but I like this version as you can do it entirely out of a store cupboard.

Easily made from threaded rod, two nuts, two washers and a couple of bits of wood (all available for peanuts from your local builders' merchants) in case no one turns up with one. Mine cost me the making of a round of teas for the guys fitting aircon to the office.

Important to get clear whether you want a tourer or a racer, for a start. Either can be pressed into service as the other, but they're not interchangeable - "audax" is probably the keyword if you want to split the difference.

Worth bearing in mind that on some cars the relay circuit for the indicators doesn't necessarily get going for nearly a full cycle after the switch is moved. Not sure if it's an issue on newer cars, though.

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't already made this: extremely straightforward store cupboard pasta fagioli:

1 x tin of tomatoes
1 x tin of borlotti beans (softer and tastier than cannellini beans)
Olive oil
Oregano
Salt and pepper
optional dark molasses sugar
decent pasta

Heat olive oil in lidded saucepan until it's perceptibly thinner than at room temperature. Add tomatoes (lid on at this point or your kitchen will gain polka dots). Let toms bubble for a bit - they should sweeten in the heat. At this point, add a teaspoon of dark sugar which brings out the full flavour. Add beans (rinse the gloop off them first) and a little water. Leave simmering for a bit so the beans heat through and soften. Shortly before taking off the heat, add oregano (which is extremely easy to grow in a pot BTW) salt and pepper.

Put the whole lot on your pasta (de Cecco FTW). Excellent post-cycling scoff, hard to get wrong and dirt cheap.

+1 to Dave Yates. Having spent some time with him, I'm pretty certain you'll not do better. Also, he's bloody good at fitting you just by eye - my course frame is bloody blissful.

All in all, pretty embarassing but I think I'm still probably the only person to have ever highsided a C90.

Seems reasonable enough to me (changed from 48x15). Plenty of people running both higher and lower gearing here.

The Benchmades have removable pocket clips (so you can swap sides and often tip-up/tip-down carry too). The studs go all the way through the blade, so they're lefty-friendly. I found my 710HSs greatly improved by dremeling away some scale material by the stud to make it easier to get to.

It's all about the leatherman knife launcher system for one handed opening (44 seconds in).

Liner locks are a bit fail in my view, and the assisted opening looks a bit fiddly and gimmicky to me. I can open my Benchmades one-handed without having to look at them, and they just have a stud through the blade - you pretty rapidly just get it into physical memory if you use them enough.

(I'd like to clarify that "use them enough" here means such things as cutting several kilometres of coaxial cable into short lengths for a TV studio build, unbaling straw when I was an agricultural labourer, unboxing many, many servers etc)

Both that you mention are well worth a visit. Something custom and lovely from 14 would obviously fit the bill. OTP-wise, try a Fuji Track if you can find one - cheaper than a Charge and feels a lot racier, albeit the bits attached to it aren't as good.

Perhaps something that mounts to the axle or dropouts and the brake boss, then carries on around the wheel, blocking spray from reaching the rider. I reckon you could make a mint out of winter commuters if you could get that to work.

Tough as anything, interchangeable lenses (come with smoke and clear, others available), seal against your face and can be used as glasses or goggles. Can't recommend 'em enough. Course, I forgot to bring the buggers with me today. Gah!
