I cant get the consistency right too mushy on the inside like baby food and the outside is overcooked before the inside. Do you use a blender or just mash it up?
I mashed fried onion and chick peas together using a ladle (no masher and a fork was taking forever), so they were fairly chunky, then season and add a whisked egg to help bind. Then roll into balls and flatten a bit into a fat disc.
They were pretty wet when they went into the pan but mostly held together ok. -

As i understand it, the campers and some of the day-trippers are starting at the Wooten checkpoint, and others at the Bembridge checkpoint.
Bembridge is 10miles from Wooten.
Yes. So if we leave Wooton in time to meet people at Bembridge, will we be leaving Wooton daytrippers behind, or will they be getting there early enough to leave with us just after 9? (assuming the Bembridge-ers are starting from 10).I'm aiming to be at the camp site for about 3:30 on Saturday, with Pifko and *M.F in tow. What's the plan for the rest of you campers?

I want to do it geared on the new bike. Was an absolute joy to ride to work this morning, despite the saddle slipping back to an uncomfortable angle. I can't believe I have lived this long without campagnolo in my life... wipes tear from eye
But as I need to lug LOADS of stuff down I need the rack which I can only mount on the Falcon. Ah well, I'll live.
J, are you coming on Sat? -

wots the 400m high hill on the route?
can't think of anything that high on that route.
I think it's the one that went up, then eased off a bit then up again, then up again. Every time you thought you were near the top you'd round a corner and there was just more up. Saw quite a few people walking up it. You're already at about 200ft when you hit the bottom so it's not that big a climb, but felt big enough on the fixed!
I plotted that route based on the maps they were giving out at the start so it might not be 100% accurate, but it's as close as I could get it.
Nice write up btw, sounds like you had an eventful ride.
That cake was good! why do old people always make such good cakes? Will I be able to make cakes that good when I'm that old? -

I'm not commuting on the fixed, and I don't think I'd get up that hill if I was! Good fun coming back down it though :)
I tried a longer route to work earlier in the week, 45 miles and found a really nice hill to ride up. Lemme find the route...

It's the one about 16 miles in. Just keeps on going up and around and up and up some more, but not too steep. -
Hope this helps!
