Oh come on, they're coppers but without the power to give you a slap AND they're doing it for free! I'd rather work in McDonalds tbh
the clue is in the name. Police Communit Support Officers. ie - they're trying to make a difference in the neighborhood.
the majority view on policemen (or at least demonstrated in this thread) is bizarre and frankly, worrying. -

The bike in question was a Charge Plug Freestyler ...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/features/article5295297.ece
As it so happens, there happens to be a thread that we happen to have here on this happening forum, although the thread itself isn't all that happening right now.
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread17464.html
Quintessential findings from Kate Spicer's article:
I didn't realise you could go snowboarding on the road ...

i don't really think there's an awful lot wrong with either of those bits.
older people trying to write about yoof culture/ sub-cultures (i don't know what the fuck to call it) or whatever is always going to be a bit of a cringe.luckily aa gill wrote one of the best table talks for a long time this week, so it was all ok in the end.

Owns?
Kanye West owns a track bike... it doesn't mean he rides though.
she does write a cycling column as oppose to being a rap super star?
the article was about her going riding with Juliette and someone else from charge, i can't remember the actual outcome of the piece but i think she ended up keeping it/buying it etc..
-
what happened to proper journalism? fucking twats.
in all fairness the sunday times style section, 99% of the time, is absolutely fucking brilliant. the piece is very tongue in cheek anyway and like someone's already said they have a cycling column that has featured two reasonably well researched pieces on fixed gears in the last six months or so - infact one of the old guys that writes it occasionally rides an SS i think, and one of the girls (i think) now owns a plug

flat white (berwick street) -- great coffee. amusing staff (though a bit too cool for school). decent bagel sandwiches. overall, a weird scene, but then again it is soho. a bit too crowded/overhyped at the end of the day
tour de ville (london fields) -- they still haven't gotten their proper coffee machine, and i can't hang out here too often or i end up spending too much money that i don't have, but i love a place that can combine good coffee and lugged steel
always, always go to Milkbar ove flat white because you can nearly always get a seat.
tour de ville have got a machine plumbed in
you could maybe try this place

Seems odd you would explicitly advise somebody not to go to a cafe where you think the coffee is average, which if I have got the right idea, would mean it is considerably better than coffee from the main stream, whilst fully endorsing a cafe because you met the owner and thought he was a nice guy.
I have had a coffee from Nude. It was good. Not exceptional, not better than the one from Lantana. Average. I've made better myself, but probably so has he, so have you and so has the woman who served me in Lantana. If I had made that particular coffee myself I would have been happy with it.
The difference between those two coffees was marginal. Both are shops which take pride in their coffee and I think your criticism is unhealthy.
alright. i also don't like lantana because i think the owner is a bit of a nob and if you're that way you may as well go to milkbar. we're on bike forums though, i'm not on tmc, coffeed, 'geek, bxchange etc so i kind of use that as an excuse to say what a want as it doesn't really matter.
i'm paying your bills regardless of which store i visit though? am i right? booooom -
what i want:
- independent coffeeshop with passable-to-cool decor (c'mon, if i wanted to drink coffee in a tip, i'd stay home)
- proper tables and chairs (not just stools)
- must have good coffee and good baristas
- decent music played at a reasonable volume
- nice, knowledgeable, happy staff that recognise you after a few trips
- should serve nice cake and a reasonable selection of lunch-type food (i'll settle for sandwiches and soup)
- safe place inside or outside for the bike
- comfortable so i can hang around for a few hours to do some work
- hasta hasta hasta have wifi
why does this not exist anywhere around me? fucksake, this is shoreditch!
try this place

the owner was at a thing i went to last week and seemed cool. it's probably not going to tick all your boxes but a bunch of people seem to rate it.
don't go to lantana, coffee is average, there's hardy any seating and their main focus is really on the food (which isn't THAT great)
- independent coffeeshop with passable-to-cool decor (c'mon, if i wanted to drink coffee in a tip, i'd stay home)

went to taste of bitter love. but i'm willing to experiment... go on, recommend me a decent flat white then.
woah, woah, woah.
taste of bitter love is absolutely fucking brilliant. it is probably my favourite overall shop in london. it's owned by the woman that works there most of the time Flic (think that's her name) with her boyfriend Billie. i've never had anything other than a spro and some food there though. nearly all the food in there is made by flic in some tiny space downstairs. i'm a huge fan.
for the best flat white you're probably best off going to either Flat White on berwick street or Milkbar on Bateman street. best consistency and they're all lovely. i would go to milkbar over flat white because it's not as busy.
you could try dose espresso in long lane EC1 (i think, best google it) i've still not been there everyone has raved about it though.
you could try sacred in westfield/holloway/ganton street, but i find it too hit and miss.

Cheers Ross. So if I rock up to any coffee shop I just let them know I'm using a stove top?
Ace.
it really depends where you go. if you go into flat white (especially as they've just got a nice big new deli grinder) yeah just tell them you're using a moka pot and they'll know what to do. if you're just going into standard X coffee shop i would probably just ask them to make it slightly coarser than espresso grind
-
yes, thanks. i am vaguely familiar with the internet, so i did look it up on wikipedia. i'm not satisfied that the answer is that a flat white is served in a smaller cup than a latte. that would make it just a cappucino without the foam, no?
didn't see this. that wiki definition isn't brilliant. the latte is basically an american invention (i can't be bothered to look that up to see that i'm 100%) but it's essentially a 3rd wave creation (ie - it wasn't invented by the italians)
a latte would typically be one shot of espresso with over 7/8/9/10+++ ounces of milk with a slight head of foam. you can serve it in a glass if you want, it definitely doesn't define the drink though the idea of pouring espresso ontop is bullshit though.a flatwhite comes from some antipodean shit, it is typically a double shot in an 7/8oz cup with slightly thinner milk than a latte. the rosetta's on top basically demonstrate that the milk has been probably steams (you can't rosetta with shit milk) and that the person who's made your drink knows what the fuck they're doing.
that's just be interpretation of it all. i'll probably go and have a look at some books later now to see what their definition of a latte is though.

nick from intelli is coming up next and there's a good chance he's going to take the whole comp so it could be sweeet

So, i dug this out today. I got it as a present a while ago.

Can some of you coffee aficionados recommend a particular type of ground coffee I should be using with this bad boy? Does it matter?there you go dude, should be everything you need to know.
if anyone wants to geek the fuck out the USBC is going on right now

i'm pretty sure that he has only been representing her for the last year or so, could be wrong but i believe that to be correct.
i also chose to believe that there are a lot, lot worse people that could have been representing her through this time. clifford seems to be used by a lot of online guardian readers as a bit of a scapegoat for the simple fact that he puts himself out there more than most agents, Pr's, whatevers. i don't think he'd made her do anything she didn't want to do and he has made the point over and over again that this is not how he would chose to do things himself but that jade made her 'fame', 'fortune' whatever you want to call it in this way and it was esentially how she chose to end it, too.
i thought he sounded quite emotional with the statement he made but that could well be because he had to get up at 3am. either way i'm sure for a man that lost his wife to cancer only a few years ago the whole thing must have been upsetting. now i'm sure a lot of people are going to talk about all the money he's pocketing from this. i would be very, very, very suprised if he took a thing for all the work he's been doing to Goody.
