I noticed the other day that my chain ring would appear to either have the teeth cut on it eccentrically, or the ring needs to be adjusted where it bolts onto the crank arm. I store my bike on the wall in the hallway downstairs when at home and the chain is then nearly at eye level. When I turned the cranks I noticed that chain goes tight then slack, then tight again - one cycle per crank revolution - and managed to trace this movement to the front chainring. It still rides ok but I am definately going to sort this out soon.

Or is this the sort of thing an lbs will do for free?I used a good set of side cutters on both my cable inners & outers. seems to work fine

Good tips Clive. I really like turkish food too. Will check out Gallipoli.I really like the 2 person platter thing at Mangal on Kingsland road. Apparently so do these chaps who frequent the place. I think they have been there every time I've walked past.
Balki, is that Mangal I (Arcola St) or Mangal II?
I've been to Mangal I and the quality is tip top - even been recommended by Rick Stein
In my opinion, all mediteranean food tastes fantastic.Originally posted by Paul-Michel>
I knew everyone here was a tree hugging PC gimp! I told you so!P-M, I might be a tree hugger but I ain't no fuckin gimp. If no-one looked out for the trees there'd be none left as they have no anti-corporate-chainsaw defences.

Was a totally mint night out.
Did anyone else see Hillbilly inadvertantly scare the shit out of that lady by the Thames in Chiswick? He turned down another path and rode past her, she screamed, dropped her bag and then looked slightly confused that all was ok. I couldn't stop laughing afterwards, she must have thought we were all up to no good or something.

I just added up the total cost of my first ss/fixie build and it comes to the grand total for everything inc. tyres & painting etc is £ 491.50. I could have spent less but wanted to get it finished (is it ever?) as quick as possible as the primal urge to ride it was just too damn strong. I also wanted it to be looking its best. Paint was £66 on its own, I could have stuck with cheaper stem & bars and a cheaper back wheel, probably saving easily another £50-60. I couldn't use very much off of the bike that came with it apart from the headset, frame & forks - meaning I had to buy everything else.
The best piece of advice I could give is to unlike me to buy a complete secondhand bike, like an old racer. There's plenty of unloved & barely used ones out there gathering dust in someones shed. You may find one that's already converted. Best to pay a little extra for decent quality (future proof) and resonable working order so you can re-use a bunch of the old parts to get you mobile.

Best oh shit moment:
Been at a mates place all afternoon drinking lots of beer with other friends. Gets late and dark. Spot random unused old mountain bike in back garden. Go for a quick blast around the primary school next door. Hurtle down a path and go to jam on the back brake for skid....except it's the front brake cos some nonse hooked em up the wrong way round! Front wheel stops dead and the rest of the bike begins to rotate around it with me on it, as it gets to around 45deg I just let go and fly through the air with legs rotating long jump style and land on my feet running. I honestly think that if I had been sober there's no way I would have avoided some kind of injury.
Very interesting link Oliver:
On helmets, I was a teenager in Australia when the helmet laws were introduced, we just didnt bother but the cops would stop you and fine you $25 which was loads for me at the time. It got tedious so I just gave in and wore one. They were just so very UNcool. Straight away kids stopped riding as much. Kids who were right into bmx etc would still ride but you'd get shit hung on you for wearing a helmet. I had a paper round and used to do it on my bike, now the kids get driven by their parents from house to house - WTF? Yeah, they'll really learn how to get things done on their own. When i see stuff like that I fear for the future of mankind.

Ive been on here for a few weeks and I think I'm mis-reading all the commonly used abbreviations that continually get posted. I have never been an internet forum member before so if someone would be kind enough to let a noob in on the secret it would be most appreciated.
