I've got a piss-up on Friday courtesy of Friday beers.....Hijiggedyjack!
All pubs on Friday have scored a mention in the Quirky Pubs ride thread. Maybe it's the first one??? But seriously I simply haven't had time to organise it so I will relinquish control of that thread to a nominated person. Everyone I've talked to thinks it's a great idea and with so many pub suggestions there is easily potential for a ride this year and like 4 or more rides next year.

Dawes Galaxy 57cm in pieces. Mostly complete but has had a hard life.
Armourtex dark blue with metal flake pwder coat - new on frame and forks never been used since coated.
Had a stripped bb thread. Been repaired but it's not super tight - would need the bb to be locktited in I'd say, or wrapped up in thread tape or metal-epoxied (decon/quicksteel) in.
Steerer tube on forks have snapped at some point and been re-brazed at the bottom of the thread on the steerer tube - not by me but by some previous owner. Looks like a decent braze but don't say I haven't told you.
Wheels are old and worn out but usable, some ancient 28c armourdillos on there
Has canti brakes and all cabling etc, saddle and seat post, cranks (triple), derailleurs & shifters, bars and stem, pedals, headset and all that. No bb though I've got one somewhere that might work.Might make a good polo steed, pub bike or whatever.
20 squids.
Collection from South Tottenham

I'm outta here for nearly 6 months this coming tuesday, was looking at having some drinks before I leave with you lovely forumites and Friday eve is looking particularly convenient for me. So what say peeps meet at the usual haunts (The Miller/Blackfriar) to kick tings off in the afternoon? Could move on for some amazing Wenlock arms action later on and if we are still standing hit Big Red.

If my evening off is on Thursday I don't moan about going to the Wests. Man up!
That's great, but not everyone has either has the time or motivation to be riding that distance for a beer on a school night. I go to souths occasionally, but Easts is far closer so I'm more likely to go there on a regular basis. Easts is also dead so that's the clincher!

I'd be up for it, I only didn't come out to Leyton cos I couldn't make it. This forum is meant to be about beer and bikes no?
Eh? London Fixed Beers,Siders & Spirits.
Yes of course, but the main point of the nightly beers is to catch peeps somewhere not too far away to drop by on their way home. Theydon Bois is not dropping by. It's an organised ride.

Jeez, that's some warped chassis.
Bzzz!
Dead straight, as it happens, he can jack it up at the back and the doors open and shut perfectly.
Ding!
Yeah, that coz it's warped. As opposed to flexy.
Bzzz!
yeah yeah. Different angle. Can't see OSR wheel off the ground in that shot.
It's like a cheap cafe table. Just out of shot there's a bloke folding a beermat to poke under the tyre.
Bzzz!
Or a very stiff suspension set up.
Ding!
Plenty of cars get a front wheel off the ground when racing, live rear axle and independent front seems to have something to do with it. Mk1 & 2 escorts and cortina's most notably. Although that said, I have no idea what is under the rear of the volvo. Reckon it's got some grip with those tyres on it, they're pretty wide.

Come on Hoonz - pick a day, and pronto.
Righto, I been busy trying to get my shit sorted before I head off on the road for 5 & 1/2 months. Kinda neglected this thread but 'tis no more. Was thinking about doing like 3 pubs on this coming Friday, any more would just be too difficult for an evening. Peeps can then organise more rides at later dates with the amazing list that just keeps growing.
I'll have a think about which 3 pubs but I really want to include the Oakdale.

A hemi. Drag racing was forever changed when this engine was released. It's with coil pack ingnition too - was wondering where the dizzy got to. That's a sweet early 60's dodge polara(?) as well.

I have to say I much prefer commuting on fixed in high traffic volume, multiple traffic-light areas (basically all of london). When I ride my geared bike all I'm doing is changing gear - total pain in the arse. With fixed you can respond to changes in traffic speed better without needing fistfulls of brake, and track standing means I respond to the green lights much faster and get out of the hole rapidly.
I was commuting 26miles per day in london for a while last year all fixed.

Due to vaccines I am once again off the sauce until thursday evening. As my week is drawing on I'm also acutely aware of how little time I have to get things sorted before I leave travelling. Basically I'm saying that I don't reckon I'll be down this week, but will definitely be down next week for the last hurrah.

On another note, something I was thinking about the other day...
As there is no cost associated with simply being on the road apart from obtaining your bike and kit one basically has a full blown right to be on the road on one's bicycle. Sure, you could get fined maybe for "reckless riding", RLJing etc. but to my knowledge you cannot be BANNED from cycling on the road. Anyone piloting a motor vehicle has to PAY for the PRIVILEDGE to be on the road. It's a priviledge, not a right as one can be banned from driving motor vehicles or incarcerated for being caught breaking the highway code and other laws and fined/thrown in jail for not paying for the priviledge to pilot one's motor vehicle.
Not sure any irate motorists would want to hear that though.

Peckham Rye, Southbound, just past the junction with East Dulwich Road.
Fenella was ahead of me and moved into the primary position as the road narrowed from two lanes into one.
Chap in the van cut me up, and then tailgated Fenella whilst shouting abuse and honking his horn.
I seriously thought he was going to hit Fenella - he was less than a foot away from her rear wheel.
When they were past the Bollard type thing he pulled out and overtook.
I caught up with him and suggested that we discuss things on the pavement.
We both left our respective vehicles and had a chat- I asked him what he would have been able to do in terms of stopping if Fenella had come off with him so close.
He replied that he would have hit her, probably running her over.
Nice work for it not escalating into a scene similar to the one outside Dark Times the other night.....
Do you think that maybe he has thought about his actions some more as a result of your discussion, or do you think he will run over the next cyclist he sees? -

I think we should try more pubs, my vote's for trying The Shakespeare
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/22/2213/Shakespeare/Stoke_Newington
Only just out of the E post codes at the lower end of N16. Has railings for bikes with a small outdoor area in front, real ales and you can buy a pizza next door and eat it in the pub = win.
We've done the Shamingpay already. If I'm honest I was not overwhelmed, it's too gastro for what we need imo. Just my 2p.
Be down in a bit n'shit
