yeah good shout, we've been trying to put our heads together on the sockets. there's no oven circuit at the moment which is a bit mad. The corner sink has allowed a real rats nest of plumbing so that project is going to be fairly significant I think but just gonna ask the plumber to make it as neat and unobtrusive as possible
I guess 'walls get finished' is kind of where my worries are at. Mainly itll be covered by units, but I think I have to assume that any wall finishing will need to be done by me somehow

We recently left an 1830s property. The bedroom was fairly damp/measured high humidity on our little thermometer thingy, however it had three external walls, and it improved when next door got rid of a shed that was too close to our wall. When we had it replastered it was all fine, except where I eventually found some rubble in the roof cavity.
Tldr: all the damp was from specific solvable things, which luckily we had enough control over to deal with

So, I'm at risk of derailing two home-related threads but I've never gotten into this level of stuff before so seeking advice.
Kitchen has just been removed (mainly) and in a couple of weeks the new one will be going in. The guy we were getting to fit a Howdens kitchen is a carpenter mainly, and is in fact building us the units etc from scratch for the same cost as the Howdens design. This is relevant as I don't think he's going to be doing anything beyond putting the units he's made in, and while the room is fine there's a whole bunch of unfinished stuff from the previous owner. I did ask the fitter what we should be sorting out and he didnt really have any suggestions but didn't specify that he would be doing anything like filling, etc. Boiler stuff is all getting boxed in so that doesn't have to be pretty, but I don't want it to be awful either I guess.
An electrician is coming in to sort that side of things out, and a plumber is going to tidy up the pipework which is a bit of a mess.
If you lot were doing this, what would you be doing in the period I now have before the new kitchen and floor is supposed to go in?
We're going to strip the wallpaper and paint the areas that will become hard to reach.
Skirting is a bit shit, mainly not attached, some bits are missing.
Should we give a shit about the bit of wall below the removed tiles? New tiles will be going on, slimline dishwasher and sink in front of the window.
Appliances will be integrated if that makes a difference to how people would approach it.

I do worry about the lack of maintenance that went on before we moved in (6 feet of solid compost in a guttering downpipe x2, for eg) but that is reassuring, thanks.
I have an infrared stripper and all the other tools, plus I’m about to go freelance and probably fail to get enough work so maybe that’s the way I should go!

I am tossing up the idea of renting a platform (cheap locally) and at least weatherproofing it myself. Might feel more appealing when this storm has moved on. The quote was based on a few mins observation at street level, and photos.
The porch is proper fucked in a couple of spots, long period of blocked gutters before we moved in. One of the uprights needs to be mostly/entirely replaced, one of the cills too.

yeah I'm trying, though I really struggled to find anyone (which also plays into the value). Hopefully I'll hear back from the one other company that looks remotely legit, I just wondered whether it was going to be a unanimous 'that's crazy' from folk on here
ah well, its preventative maintenance and so on, better this than getting all that stuff replaced when it rots and falls through our car windscreen

one bit of guttering would need taking off above the small bay maybe? but the chunky bit of work is the apex thing ( i do not have the terminology). porch not part of the quote as its rotting and needs a whole separate project
also not in london so hopefully avoiding any london tax though its south coast so not gonna be far off

they sort of give the impression is all-encompassing, doesn't mention materials but does specify that all the rubbish will be taken away etc. I imagine it to be a full day of sanding and filling, plus whatever the painting takes, its not a massive house. plus the premium for working at height obv, like its worth X from the get go coz i pretty specifically don't want to do it myself up in the roof apex.

Has anybody had soffits and fascia boards repainted lately?
I've just had a quote for the front of our 3-bed semi, "rub down external woodwork and fill...two undercoats and gloss" for just under £3k. I don't really have any frame of reference so its just gut, but that's probably more than i was expecting.
they also quoted to sort out our rotting porch for £800 which is probably about what I would have expected, so maybe its just coz im clueless
