A couple of 600 group-sets for thought, i personally like the look of the sis(top one). nice and clean lines, simple and about the same age as your frame I should imagine.
I have a 600 tricolour group on my TT bike and a mix of 600tri/sis on my rat daily ride, IMHO they work really well and do the job.

BB 37mm: if you measure the width of the bottom bracket shell. It will be 68mm wide and UK threading, seeing it is a British made frame.
Seatpost hole(?)28mm: the seat post diameter will be 27.2, maybe 27 as its 531.
Stem hole (?) 24mm: it should take or 1" stem.
I have see the frame, its really nice in the flesh. love the colour! Good luck with the build I look forward to seeing its progress.

It's not a big issue. Loads of info on Google. .... Just rub rust off with wire wool /steel brush. Paint with some oil based paint, Hammerite ect. Or mask area and spray it with car paint........Then ride it. End.
But if you kept it inside you would have alot less issues later on with the whole bike turning to shit........Or being stolen, kicked in. I would be more worried about that than the rust.

Thanks for the advice. i have shed full of old bikes and as i said, i have been building and repairing bikes for a long time, in workshops, bike kitchens and community projects. maybe going to work in a shop would help hone my skills in no other way could..... i guess what i was trying to figure out what would be the industry standard, seems to be Cytech? if i want to get a visa for Australia i would need something to prove i know what I'm doing. ....and hopefully land a job.

like me, most of you guys build and maintain your own bikes. What would be the best course to help me up my game? Get a qualification that counts. e.g if i want to travel and get a job abroad?
I have been building and fixing bikes all my life, I have spent a year working at the bike recycling center in Walthamstow, have volunteered all over the place at various bike kitchens. I feel I'm fairly competent mechanic, but have room to improve and would value from a decent teacher.
Bike Works does a 10 day VRQ city and guilds course at £900. Am i going to learn anything new? is this just a waste of money?
Is there a college course in London anyone could recommend? something longer than 10 days?
Any help suggestions, views?
Thanks,
