i had the classic, going down a hill and then the stem decided it wasn't going to hold the handlebars anymore - at all.
was able to keep holding the handlebars (though only attached to the bike by the brake and gear cables) and use the brake to slow down very carefully, to a stop... all of course, balancing the bike like when you ride no handed :S
scary moment
I had the same thing happen. Unfortunately I didn't manage to hold it together and went flying. It HURT :(

Sorry to everyone who posted in this, I got a £340 bill from EDF direct debited out of my account in error so been busy getting that money back before i could think about buying wheels! are any of these offers still available as i want to get the beater on the road asap now. thinking the weekend if i can get something sorted.

Having been for a very icy ride earlier i'm out too. Will try to get to the bull and last for one or two before those of you braver than me head to Kew. If i don't, will def be up the hill tuesday.

So just to be sure, meet at the bull and last at 7.30 whatever for beer and possible ice cream then either ride to bridges meet or do our own (very short) ride to the southampton arms(?) to check it out?

I'm pretty sure it's meet at the bull and last at the bottom of wests hill at 7.30 then we're going to make a decision on the conditions and either head to the bridges ride or stay in the pub.
If I've got anything wrong can someone correct, otherwise see you there.

Can't go on that site as it's blocked at work but guessing it doesn't make for pretty reading.
How about meet at the bull and last at 7.30 and decide then. If too icy we can then stay in the pub/go check out the rough estate pub which is apparently now nice...

Still not 100% but definitely on the mend cheers and on course to be good for the bridges ride saturday. Looking forward to it, hope it's a little less slushy than my ride home today though!

Ok i am fully expecting grief for this but i'm on my fifth cup of hot ribena and just want to go home and to bed and not up swaines so i'm out of tonight.
If someone could post a meeting time and place to roll over to the bridges ride saturday that would be great as it was one of the main reasons i was contemplating going up the hill.

It saddens me that the OP didn't contact Jos, who is (was?) after all a frequent used of this forum, to find out if it was legitimate sale.
Both Winston & I were with Jos the night before he left town and I'm sure this isn't how he perceived the end of TdV uk to play out.
Particularly bearing in mind the fact Jos does (or did) use the forum, might it be worth people who posted based on incomplete info (talk of midnight flits etc) editing their comments. Sad to see the shop go and don't like the idea Jos might read things like this at what i'm imagining isn't the easiest time...

A pint of ale is about 3.30 or summit I think. Which is the same as at easts and souths.

Bump having thought more about price. probably looking ot spend £30-40ish if this sounds reasonable and anyone has anything that would suit. If not, could stretch to a bit more if not but want to keep cost down if possible

Not really sure, as little as possible tbh (i know that's not very helpful but i'm not really sure how cheap a cheap wheel is) . Are you going to be at Norths on tuesday? Could discuss then if you've got anything in.

Train Out - Liverpool St @ 9.02am, arriving Shenfield 9.30am
Train Back - Shenfield @ some time around noon (trains are every 15min or so).

Will be my first forum ride after bottling the bridges, looking forward to it.
