In a bid to make some room I’m parting ways with my beloved Commencal Absolut VIP 2006 custom build. Pretty rare in that they were never officially imported into the UK (I got mine via the French Dist.) the Absolut VIP is modeled on the early ‘hardcore hartails’ with a (what was) long travel fork upfront and pretty playful geometry (think Cove Stiffee, Orange Crush, etc) – short TT, slack HT, stiff back end, etc.

More photos here: http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx39/Alb4416/Commencal/
Frame: Commencal Absolut Alu VIP 2006 (Large)
Fork: Fox Vanilla R 125mm QR (Firm spring fitted)
Wheels: Hope XC 6-bolt (gold) on Mavic XM321 Disc / XT M755 6-bolt on Mavic XM321 Disc
Brakes: Saint M800 hydraulic brakes w/ 180/160mm Shimano 6-bolt SM-RT75 rotors (F/R)
Headset: Cane Creek S3 Headset (brand new)
Seatpost: Thomson layback seatpost
Saddle: Velo Cr-Mo railed saddle (brand new)
Rubber: Onza Canis AM 2.25” 120TPI folding tyres (brand new)
Chainset: Shimano Hone chainset & HTII BB 175mm
Front Mech: XT Front Mech
Rear Mech: XTR M970 Rear Mech
Cassette: XT Cassette (11-32T I think – might be 34T)
Shifters: LX Shifters
Handlebars: Titec Hellbent carbon bars 31.8 x 660mm
Stem: Titec RIP 3D Stem (90 or 100mm)
Grips: Titec Grips
Pedals: Will throw in Shimano PD-M520 pedals and new cleats tooCondition is overall very good with a few scratches and scuff to the frame as you’d expect. Wheels spin freely and true, blah, blah ,blah. Good to hit the trails basically. I’m 6ft and it should be good to fit anyone a few inches either side.
The bad bit – there’s a small dint on the DT (pic 154/156 via the photobucket link). No idea how it got there but I’ve been riding it fine like that for the last 2yrs (I’m not small) so I’m guessing it’s not affected the structural integrity of the frame. Best be honest, right?

With this in mind I’m looking for £450 (which is hopefully still a bit of a bargain)
Drink for the forum as per usual upon sale and normal forum rules apply (dibs, etc). As it’s a bike happy to let people to try it for size, etc. I’m away in Berlin this weekend but will be about from Tues next week (based in Finsbury Pk).
Cheers my dears

Hi Guys and Girls,
Okayed this by the David so hopefully it won't get bashed as spam...
A talented colleague of mine has spent the past 12 months documenting the CX race scene as a self-funded personal project and is finally ready to show the fruits of his labour and would like to invite all CX/cycle fans to the launch next Tuesday evening...
**Cyclocross 2011/12 **

Tuesday 29th May from 7:00pm @ Evans Cycles West End, 62 Mortimer Street, London, W1W 7RR
x2 time CX World Champion Zdeněk Štybar, will be on hand to chat and answer questions and there should be ample room to bring bikes inside. Rumour has it in true Flemish fashion there might also be some Beligan beer available too.
It'd be great to see there!

Might be, not sure about this.
I took out the seatpost (26.8, the actual in the pic) and put a finger inside the seattube - apparently I could feel different thickness inside - upper is thinner and deepere is thicker. Then I tried sticking in 27.2 seatpin, but the frame said nicht nicht for that. So it is now succesfully going with 26.8 diameter (there are nice solutions for a nice seatpin - Thomson makes 26.8 posts, and many others too, I think)That's the butting you can feel - it's common for the tube wall thickness to be thicker where the extra strength is needed (clamping area and tube junction point in this case).

Please can I have forum recommendations for the best geared bike for under a grand that you can fit full guards, a rack, can fit 28's or 32's and is available through Evans.
Charge do a few cross bikes that look quite nice, the Jamis I posted above looks to be in the right direction, is there anything else? I think Evans can order Surly, nothing on their website so i'll have to check that. My wife has never owned a bike with drops before, so hybrids are still a posibility, but further down the pecking order. It's just for commuting, with maybe the occasional longer weekend ride, but nothing major. She's 'out grown' in cycling terms her Pinacle hybrid and wants more of a 'proper bike'. Thanks in advance - I keep just going in circles.
Coda Elite is a lot of bike for the money if you didn't want to go down the drop bar route (BB7's, Reynolds 520 frame, bags of tyre clearance, carbon legged fork, mudguard and rack mounts f&r, decent range with the 48/36/26T chainset, etc)

Early models had quite tight clearance. I had to crimp the driveside chainstay on mine to fit a 48T. A bit of a pain but mine was due a re-paint so I wasn't that precious.
Anyone with a Flyer had trouble with a chainring hitting the chainstay?
I tried fitting a 48t to mine and it was rubbing the stay . I'm using a road crank, an Ultegra HT2, but the problem was from trying to align the ring with the sprocket nothing to do with the cranks.
Mighta been the wheel I spose. It's a charge dish wheel, pretty standard fair I thought?

Yep, that's the saddle height for me - at a smidgen over 6ft. It's a pretty compact/playful frame TBH. Sorry!
