Do you think it's worth getting the guy at my local bike shop to just rebuild the wheel with the same rim then? I do know that he is a good wheel builder, I've had wheels that he's built in the past and they've withstood me using them.
With the different Mavic 29er wheel sets; what's the difference in the rim between the Askium, the Crossone, the Crossride and the Crossroc?

Wholly thread revival, so I got a Cannondale cross bike and it came with maddux cx 2.1 36 spoke wheels. On the first ride I had spoke snappage, because I'm 22 stone. So do you guys think that the wheels I was originally planning to get (see above) would be a lot stronger than the maddux wheels?
I've got Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels on my road bike and they've not failed me, do Mavic make a cyclo cross/29er version of these wheels and what are they called?
Thanks again.

Sorry for posting the ebay link, I hardly ever sell on ebay so you can be reassured the likelihood of it happening again is negligible. Sorry also for possibly posting in the wrong section.
Thanks for the detail Howard. I'm not racing and I'm a very heavy rider so from what you've written thirty six spoke 29er wheels will probably be the right choice for me.

Hi, has anyone got a cross bike with disk brakes? I'm getting a cross bike and I'll be having the wheel built by the local bike shop.
I know which hubs to get but I wonder about the rims. Is there any reason I shouldn't used 29er mountain bike rims or would it be better to get cyclocross specific rims?
By the way my road bike is on ebay if anyone's interested; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Litespeed-Xicon-Easton-Shimano-Mavic-Thomson-FSA-/111603427402?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19fc15284a

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a compact camera or compact camcorder that I'll have on a lanyard mounted around my neck so I can reach it quickly for when I need to record a car numberplate or when there's dangerous driving.
I don't wear a helmet on my commute rides so I can't have a helmet mounted camera for this and a handlebar mounted camera (or mounted anywhere on the bike) only records one angle.
Sorry in advance If there's already a thread about this btw.
So does anyone else have this sort of camera set up. If anyone does, what camera have you got? Have you got a stills camera or a camcorder? Or are there any other suggestions?

Hi all, so I order said crankset from one mail order website, waited in every morning for it to be delivered and it never came. Now I've ordered from another mail order website and waiting in every morning for the delivery but it's still doesn't seem to be materialising.
Are these in short supply in this country or what?
It's like a few years ago when it was so difficult (for me) to get Campag stuff for my road bike.

Hi I want to know if copper grease is a good anti seize agent to stop the headset cups seizing or cold welding into the frame.
It's an Aluminium frame and Aluminium headset cups.
Or should I be looking for a more specialised anti seize compound?
I asked in Halfords and Wilkos but they didn't have anything then I went to the local bike shop and he recommended copper grease, is this a good recommendation?
I searched in the forum for 'copper grease' btw, before anyone writes back telling me to do a search.

I do fancy a Cinelli Vigorelli but the Hoy seems the more value for money option though.
My problem with Aluminium bikes is that I had a cheap nasty Aluminium Fausto Coppi and it was a horrible bike, so my worry about the Hoy Fiorenzuola is that the frame is going to be cheap and nasty like my Coppi was.
-
Has anyone used a Hoy Fiorenzuola?
I'm looking at track bikes for when Derby velodrome opens.
The Hoy Fiorenzuola looks like a fairly decent bike with good components, especially the Omnium chainset.
I imagine a Cinelli Vigorelli set up with equivalent components would be at least £1,000.
If anyone has ridden a HF would you recommend it or would you say give it a miss?

Am I right in thinking the 2014 Cinelli Vigorelli is the same as the 2013 one (in terms of; 'New conical seat tube with increased diameter; The conical shape gives a stiffer bottom bracket area and increased pedalling efficiency. Columbus Altec No-Flex downtube and oversized ribbed stays for best rigidity'.), just with different colours?
I prefer the blue and white colours rather than this years black and yellow or grey and pink.
Thanks dudes.

Sorry Tenners, I obviously didn't search that thoroughly. I was using the wheel I built with the Surly hub (http://www.lfgss.com/thread45310.html) as a front wheel but I'm thinking of buying a six hole cog for it and putting it in the rear now.
Thanks again.

Hi there,
I'm thinking on using a Disc Mounting Fixed Cog for my next back wheel instead of a screw on type. I keep snapping spokes and the sproket/cog is always ceased on so I end up buying a new wheel.
I'm afraid I might snap one, more than one or all the bolts or some other unforeseen problem.
Is anyone using this type of cog system, if you are, what's the verdict?
Thanks in advance, Mick S.
(I have seached within the forum for this subhject btw).

Hi, I've just built up my new frame with old components, going to up grade to new compnents when I can afford it.
The steerer tube is 7 millimetres too short for the new frame though. It's a Thomson stem, the steerer tube clamp is 35 millimeres.
I know this is possibly not safe enough to ride, so, are there any stems availible that have a shorter/narrower steerer clamp?
Any reccomendations?
Alternativly, what's a good mid-range carbon fibre fork for around £200, similar to the present fork I've got (Reynolds Ouzo Pro)?
Sorry if this has been addressed before but I don't know what key words I'd use to search for a topic like this, it seems too complicated.

Hi, I've read the first thirty replys on this thread and it seems like you guys know what you're on about.
I need to know if CPX33s are stronger than Open pro's for a heavier rider?
I've got wheels built with Open pro's and I keep getting spoke snappages, I've had them rebuilt about four times now and the last rebuild was with tandem spokes but still got a snapped spoke after only one twenty mile ride.
Is this because the wheel builder isn't good or is it the lack of strength in the rims?
I'm twenty stone btw, and that's a muscly twenty stone btw.
Hi, I'm aware that the official weight limit for a Brompton is 110kg but does anyone know of any Brompton riders that are heavier than that whose Brompton hasn't snapped?
I'm 140kg btw, so at my intended weight loss rate of one to two kilograms a month the soonest I could be under the weight limit would be a year, but with my current commuting routine I could really do with having a Brompton sooner than that.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
