It' because I commute on the road and the canal tow path throughout winter and the gritty grime from the road and mud from the path causes extra erosion. I've started using the brake going down hill and cutting down on back pedalling beacause I found that back pedalling all the time was making my legs ache so bad.
I'll look at the websites you've suggested, thanks dudes.

Hi dudes,
I've search the forum and can't find anything about which disk brake pad material is the most long lasting.
I've got a Pompino fixed bike with Pompetamine forks for a disk brake and I want the pads to be really hard wearing and last as long as possible to minimise having to change them all the time (sort of the whole point of riding fixed for me).
I've heard that organic pads are soft but mountain bikers have them so they can 'feather' the braking. (I don't want to bother with that; I'll use my legs to back peddle and feather brake with the back wheel). All sorts of other stories about diffeent disk brake pads too.
If there is a website out there with some diffinitive explanation can anyone direct me to it rather than asking if I've tryed Googleing it.
Thanks much.

Can we please fuck off with quoting the half naked pictures of girls with shit bikes... some people on here like to browse at work. If you want naked girls piss off to a proper porn website.
Do you not enjoy your job then, besides I thought you were all bike messengers on this forum, how can you browse websites while your bike messengering? -

Hi, I'm just about to start my MA dissertation about encouraging more people to cycle to work and I'm thinking about what to do after.
I'm currently studying Science, Technology and Society Research Methods at Nottingham University and I'm aware that there are some academics who post on this forum.
Just wondering if you have any suggestions about where, London or elsewhere, the best places to do a PhD are incase I decide to carry on with the theme of cycling promotion.
So far places like York and Lancaster and Oxford seem quite good for this sort of thing. What do you guys think?

I want a tweed jacket for riding my fixed bike in aswell as wearing off the bike, but I'm not willing to wear something that's dry clean only for cycling in, it'll get sweaty and will need to be washed way too often, so having to get it dry cleaned will be just too inconvenient. The ones I've seen that are machine washable are a bit like wax jackets (crappy looking) and even the Rapha one that I've seen is dry clean only. Can anyone reccommend something suitable please.
-
I want to bring the style of tweed to the provinces (Nottingham), but what the deal with it; can I get a good tweed jacket that I can machine wash and not have to send it to the dry cleaners? I don't want any clothing that I have to dry clean! Can you guys reccommend a tweed jacket that's suitible for cycling in.
Thanks dudes.

That is an abomination, the worst thing I have ever seen, a waste of good components and a waste of time and tubing making it. Looks rad but bound to be bendy as a soft cock and will probably snap if the rider trys to ride it fast a lot.Surely you guys that judge the asthetic quality of bikes on here take in to account how well a machine functions as well as its form?

If there are signs then most people (cyclists and pedestrians) are going to think they represent legal reality; so how do you counter this. My first thought would be to get some stickers printed that say "these signs are advisory only....", or words to that effect and stick them to the sign posts.
This sort of thing needs to be properly countered because it's the thin end of the wedge for pesecution of cyclists.

Sorry if this has been covered already but I've only read about knee problems being caused by riding fixed not being helped by riding fixed.
So what's going on; I've had chronic knee problems since long before I got as heavey as twenty stone, but now I ride fixed regular they seem to be ok and when I go for more than a week or so without riding fixed the pain re-emerges. Any Chiropracters or joint specialists want to offer an opinion.
I've been cycling all my life and only started riding fixed again about a year ago and I thought it would make my knees even worse. I use quite a low gear by the way (42-18).

Have you thought about getting a Mountain bike or cross bike and doing lots of off road cycling? this could enable you to learn to enjoy cycling again in the safer motor vehicle free environment and massively add to your bike handling skills as a bonus.
It worked for me when I went through a major bout of depression and stopped cycling on the roads because I lost self confidence in all aspects of my life.

Hi London dudes, What are the deepest section aluminium rims? The follow up question is; will these be stronger than the Halo Aerorage rim that's got a snapped spoke in it?
Thanks dudes.
