Stole croft's route above and moved things around a wee bit. Gave me a few hours of lush green views in Essex.
First time I have taken someone else's route off the web and used it on the Garmin app on my mobile.
So far I haven't managed to copy other people's Strava routes to my phone. Is that possible? Any tips on how to make do with just my iphone and not have to buy an actual Garmin would be very welcome. I'm not blown away by the user-friendliness of the Garmin app. Kept having to move back and forth between that and the phone's native map app. Perhaps there is a way around this?

I'm seeing so many fixed gear bikes with no foot retention these days.
Ridden by people who seem awkward and uncomfortable with the whole fixed thing, as if they wished the pedals would just stop spinning for a moment. Yesterday I saw a lovely fixed conversion with clip in pedals ridden by a bloke in normal trainers.
Surely a good proportion of these are stolen bikes? -
I used to live in the building right on the Sclater Street market (off Brick Lane) where 30+ stolen bikes were sold each Sunday. (I posted about them in this thread at the time, but my posts got little notice).
My point anyways, is how fucking normal all bike thieves and the people who buy stolen bikes look. So yes, could be anyone basically. -
Anyone else watching this?

I can see where your argument is going, that there is no reason for us to get tribal and jump to someone's defence solely because he is a fellow cyclist. I agree.
Mind you, with one gazillion posts in the "is it time to start calling out..." thread this forum has quite possibly become less cyclist friendly than the average Londoner is right now.But still, I reckon it's worth it that we weigh in on the debate on a public forum in order to establish what is OK and what is not. It's not unthinkable that what we are posting right now might very well be read by someone who will end up sitting on the jury of the case.
And my best wishes for the poor old passenger of course.

... riding a bike like a bell ...
Nah, the wider context still applies. Because who's to say what makes him a bell end? It'll largely be a matter of perspective, consensus and precedence. If I swerve to avoid a broken bottle I am almost sure to be honked at by the driver behind me. Drivers who only see the cyclist, not the broken bottle/pothole.

... I haven't studied crash stats in Denmark yet (need to learn a bit of Danish first).....
http://www.sikkertrafik.dk/Raad-og-viden/Paa-cykel/Undersoegelser-og-statistik-om-cykelulykker.aspx
First graph = number of cyclists killed
Second graph = number of cyclists seriously injured
Elsewhere on the web I found some indication that only serious accidents make it to the statistics. Also, this report on Lorry vs. Cyclist seems to be a good read. It is summarised in English on page 78 and onwards:
http://www.hvu.dk/SiteCollectionDocuments/HVUrapp04_Hoejresving.pdf
The way I read this report the Danes are no closer finding a solution to this problem in terms of rethinking road layout than we are in the UK. Mirrors and driver attention seems to be the main issues at stake as far as I can see from the report.Which leads me to repeat what I have ranted on here before; that arguing for DK/NL road layouts in the UK as a measure to prevent accidents is a Guardian-reader's myth. Accidents are reduced if the mindset of drivers change. What Hippy wrote above essentially.
