On the subject of lights, petition to drop VAT on lights;
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/55344On a general note, I never liked this kind of activism.
"Make X subsidised / VAT-exempt / free."
Why?
"Because I want it."We all have to contribute somehow, and how many lights are you going to buy this year? Can you really not spare those few extra quid towards the general good?

... whey...
I started out chucking down lots of whey, and I reckon it gave results, but have moved onto other protein sources as whey was a bit tough on my stomach.
Now I am getting this stuff:
http://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/vegan-blend/10637445.htmlWould recommend. If whey for some reason disagrees with you that is. Downsides compared to whey would be slightly higher price and that it doesn't mix quite as well as whey powder.
But if I take the trouble to blend the chocolate variety with soy milk and a banana it is actually really yummy. -

Isn't there a ride on Saturday mornings that leaves from somewhere near Clapton/Lea Bridge Road?
Can't for the life of me remember which forum I found it on.EDIT:
Here we go.
http://www.rollapaluza.cc/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=439&page=1I won't get to join their forum by tomorrow morning - my application pending. So what do you guys reckon? Will there be people on the corner of Lea Bridge Road and Chatsworth Rd tomorrow morning? At 8am? And will they do mean things to me if I am a not on their forum? And on a fixed gear?

some good news,
Pittsburgh Bicycle Maker Builds One for Man Without ArmsAwesome, ended up watching it twice.

Also, anyone used these guys before - http://www.mdfcuttosize.com/
Want a desktop cut to the width of my second room.Maybe I'm answering too late, but I would really not want to use MDF for a desk, of any size. I tried once and the material started to sag. I suppose you could if you made a very sturdy framework underneath. But if you do intend make a sturdy framework, why not spend the £60 on some thin plywood?

Gents, just wanted to check something with you. I had one of these installed in my kitchen.
http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-logic-plus-1-gang-2-way-dimmer-switch-mains-low-voltage-400w-white/48466It died. First it stopped working as a dimmer, but still worked as a light switch. But then I noticed it started getting really hot, so hot the plastic eventually cracked. A fire hazard of course to I de-installed it. Screwfix were great and sent me a new switch without fibbing. But before I install it again I need to check whether this happened because of me overloading it.
I had it running two of these:
http://www.madeindesign.co.uk/prod-e27-pendant-by-muuto-ref5112.htmlOne with a 60 W bulb and one with a 100 watt bulb. These kind of bulbs:
http://www.lamps-on-line.com/globe-120mm-230v-100w-e27-clear.htmlAm I OK to install again or would that be heading to crazy town?

Used my moon light set for the first time properly this week, absolutely amazing
The Moon comet looks awesome. Very tempted.
Serfas Thunderbolt. It's rear, rechargeable, and uses the same rubber straps as most other things.
Thanks for the tip AJ, sounds like it does fit the bill for me.
OK, so Serfas and Moon are the same brand. Presumably Serfas Thunderbolt are the same tech as Moon Comet?
Would be great as the UK version would be much easier to get replaced under warranty should that be an issue. Moon Comet is available in loads of places in the UK – at a price point that competes with ordinary nodder lights. And is quality an issue? Good reviews on Bike Radar and Road CC. But comment field on Bike Radar not so positive.
Looking further up this thread it seems MrLemon has got them. Availble for comment mate? And Rogan, which Moon lights have you got?
EDIT:
Very mixed reviews on Wiggle too. -

National service!
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/cbill/2013-2014/0032/cbill_2013-20140032_en_2.htm#l1g1"...(2)Regulations shall also provide that the scheme shall include—
(a)a residential element, requiring that participants live away from home;
and ...."Mixed halls where every resident is away from mum and dad for the first time in their lives. Imagine what a shag fest that would be. I mean, not like uni where the middle class gets it on with each other, but an orgy for everyone!

What do I need?
A proffessional bike fit.
Can I afford it?
No.I never had any discomfort until recently, although my position has overall been a bit random and ropey. But having just started using clip in pedals (ATAC aluim) I have been getting some pretty nasty knee pain.
So…. are there any aspiring bike boffins who'd help me out with a bit of positioning issues?I drop by your place. You regale me with your knowledge whilst we tweak my seat/seatpost/cleats. And perhaps discuss whether I need a new stem. Whilst you make snarky insults about my sitting position and pedalling technique.
I pay you in beer or help you move a piano or something.

... CM isn't PR for some homogenous mass called 'cyclists'. We are a bunch of people who have different ideas. ... CM is just people. You're a person.
IDK Skully... you're no stranger to a bit of generalisation yourself.

a quick rummage around for more recommendations for mortgage brokers. a few good tips in this thread a year ago - any updates?
