Did you just describe trump
You could compare Trump and Vance in that they both came to public attention through having a media profile rather than political talent. In Trump's case it was reality TV, and in Vance's case it was an autobiography so airbrushed it might as well have been a docu soap.
But the persona they have projected in these mediums are at complete opposites. Trump is infallible, super human, a never ending success story, almost god like. Vance plays on his vulnerabilities and speaks openly about the flaws in his family history, something I presume many potential voters will identify with. Mind you, Vance tells us how he overcame this challenging start in life through smarts and hard work, proving to us that for people of the right calibre the American dream is not dead. -

I bought and read J D Vance's book because it was on the Economist's recommendation list that year. Probably their worst of their recommendations ever. Vapid, bland and failing to deliver anything of substance. Now it turns out that the very same book may have been what secured him his VP nominee role.

Not able to fact check, but sounds impressive.

Biden has a stutter & forgets stuff, Trump rapes kids.
Two different discussions innit. One discussion is Trump vs Biden, the other discussion is Biden vs pretty much any other Dem candidate. And if the bar is "doesn't rape kids" then, to my knowledge, pretty much any Dem candidate will make the cut – and as such there should be no reason to cling onto Biden.

I can't come up with a convincing argument as to how any of the Dem alternative would beat Trump, but if the Dems loose it is also a matter of who they lost with. In a burgeoning dictatorship with the threat of civil war looming, you'd like the loosing part to at least have some confidence in the person that held the banner when they reached that point. Navalny had his flaws, but in opposition he at least came across with an air purpose and vitality that struck a contrast to the ageing Putin and his cronies.

To those who suggested earlier in this thread that Trump is little more than a puppet whose strings are held by Project 2025, podcaster Robert Evans has a pretty convincing argument to the contrary:

Make no mistake, I think it's appalling that the man most likely to become the next US president is even talking to this scum. But let's not resort to conspiracy theories.
