I was taught that near sightedness was one of the few genuine physiological signs of ageing. I can't now remember what the others were .
You tend to need them after 45. This makes trips to the opticians expensive..
The annoying thing is that as I started off short sighted , I now need to take the glasses off for close up work...
Also
10 speeds and centre pulls being cool

Bread in waxed paper bags, gosh yes that takes me back.
We still had a local baker, Yeomans, in W Norfolk and I still think of their bread bags with ,of course, a smiling Yeoman of the Guards on them
Also Grammar Schools , having central heating installed , the first Avocado and going to a supermarket for the 1st time.

Wrong tea hut!
The cyclists' one is up the hill @ High Beach over on the far side past the pub . Just follow the signs in the Forest for High Beach, and it ishigh beach and not high beech. I think that's because the hill side there is a geological feature of some sort.
Let me know if you do want a ride out there and I can show you. UTFS and you should find the pics from the last Joy of Essex ride of the stop at the hut.

A massive lack of interest here , and now that I ve seen the list for the fiddy ride I can see why.
Also, I am now a prospective Tweed Run Marshall, so I need to do the recce rides over the next two weekends
So, lets forget about this for now . Perhaps I ll run it later in the month or early December; though the leaves will have gone by then.

And now for a simple ride, especially suitable for newbies and people who want to move on from cycling around old street roundabout or Dalston to Stamford Hill Morrisons and back.
A very simple tea hut and back ride from east london to the tea hut @ High Beach , yes it is beach not beech , and then back to East London and a pub in Walthamstow.
Leave Whipps X @ 10.30 or 11 and then back to E17 by 2.00 pm The ride is intended to show people the routes out of east london the glory that is Epping Forest. The High Beach Tea hut is the tea stop for east london's cyclists.
More details will be posted as more people sign up. The route is not hilly and suits SS or fixed.
If a meet @ LMNH make more sense, then I am happy to oblige. If you want to know more about the route and my rides then look up the Joy of Essex ride and UTFS.
By the way, the forest should be looking glorious that weekend with golden snow from the leaves on the road. Worth the ride for that alone.

Just recieved this from my club, so if you are over 12 and at a loose end on sunday morning then come and try one of the great hill climbs ....
"Dear all, Just a reminder that the Club Hill Climb takes place this Sunday at Mott Street, High Beech, Epping at 10AM.
We will be meeting at Walthamstow Town Hall from 8.45 am to 9.00am.
We will leave the Town Hall at 9.00am to give us time to get to Mott Street by 9.30/9.45 to give people time to sign on and collect there numbers
which will be available from Sean from 9.30 at the top of Mott Street /Bridal Path ( Pepper Hill.)
The climb is approximately 1100 Yards
This is a come and try event so you do not have to be a club member to take part although if you are under 18 you will need your parent to sign a parental consent form.
under 12s are not allowed to ride on events on the open road.
After the Event we will go to the Green Hut at High Beech for refreshment and those that want can go for a club run."

I thought we were Temperance ?
Yes, great idea to meet etc . Blatchford hated the bureacracy that came with clubs, I know how he felt, and wanted the emphasis on fellowship. So meetings should be as short as possible with only the necessary business being done.
My thoughts were that we should agree monthly runs with perhaps the same starting point-this means either a runs secrtary or each run having an agreed leader. For example, I d be happy to do an East London and Essex one.
Are we affiliating to any bodies for racing etc , ie BC or RTTC. This helps with indemnity insurance . This might not be needed if don't race as a team and those who do race do so as their 1st claim club.

Hi Oliver
I ve been going to Olympic Planning meetings for work and am off to one with TFL on friday.
The Olympic period runs from the 1st week of July till the end of the Para olympics in, I think , the 1st week of September. It is , I am told, going to be a challenging period.
So, I d go for the festival in June as you might find hiring space etc difficult in July. Its not just the Olympic Park that will be busy but any open space nearby where you can put a screen up etc .
I think an LFGSS olympic "do " is a good idea , but should be done in or around the Olypmpics..
