Actually, the roundabout is probably safer now than at any time since it was built. I ve been riding across it since 1981.
The problem with it now are caused by the increase in traffic, the volume of cyclists crossing the Lea there and those cyclists varying degrees of skill. When I last rode it regulary only knarled old club men from Essex commuted along that rode.
The other problem, and it's a major one for East London, is that there are only 4 road crossings of the Lea Between Canning Town and Tottenham. So sooner or later cyclists have to mix it with the all the traffic coming in from Essex. Canning Town is even worse, but fewer people come in that way.
What we need is more cycling only routes across the Lower Lea. Yes, there is the canal route into Victoria , but its indirect and badly sign posted.

most people in cycling clubs are pretty good company and less all-over-the-place-cyclists-who-are-half-drunk-baggy-short-wearing-longdistance-newbies than on most forum rides (forum rides are however very entertaining).
They are not as bad as they used to be , but club runs were not always the friendliest places to be, this inlcudes CTC runs..
That said , they are a good way of learning the rules and when Oil is up or down...
Forum rides are on the whole more entertaining, especially when the leader looses the rest of the ride. -
I think routes needs to be passed on from rider to rider . That way you dont need garmin and can rely on chap nav and instinct. Eventually, a cyclist becomes like a migratory birds that always know the way.
The most important route is the one that gets you out of London, in my case its the routes out to the essex lanes.
Give me a week or two and I ll revive the "joy of essex"

You could do a ride based on the stories
So, the Blue Carbuncle would be Bake St to Tottenham Court Road and back,
The Red Headed League would take you to Aldgate,
The missing 3/4 takes you to Cambridge and is a story in which Holmes rides a bike
You should also include a visit to Barts , which is where they met.You get the idea.
The Hound of the Baskervilles would obviously be off roading on Dartmoor

Hi my daughter: 17 years , 5ft 2" and not likely to grow much, wants a new bike for her birthday. She rides 26" wheels on her pashley type roadster but now wants some thing faster for her birthday.
Wanda, the fuji track looks just right for her . Can I check if you are a similar size to her .
And whats the Fuji like for longer rides? Had you thought about a Pompino at all?
Thanks in advance...
Well, her birthday and her party was yesterday. The bike was also revealed to her
Eleanor, my daughter, loves the bike and has wobbled down the street on it; she admits she's a bit frightened . I now need to put on a freewheel on and change the bars to something less deep. Thankfully, I ve some old SR 38cm which should be perfect.
I ve promised her a ride out to High Beach Tea Hut..
