Very tempted to give it a shot when the mornings are brighter and a little bit nicer but it's a 35mile jaunt... 99GI on the fix and a nice big road with plenty of hard shoulder mainly through countryside so you can give it welly without fear of peds or running into anything making a turn... am I mad??
Nah, it's a walk in the park. Only 1866.66666666 crank revolutions. Hell, over inflate the tyres and you could probably lose the odd 66.66666666

The one time that a rider is likely to discover a fault in the braking system (frayed cable, etc.) is when the brake(s) is / are needed most.
I had some twat turn right straight in front of me recently whilst on my geared bike at 20+. Braking was pure survival at that time and attempts were made to get both levers in firm contact with the bars (was on geared bike at time). That would have deffo revealed any faults in the cables. In the event of a failure there was no time for alternatives so forget about feet on wheels, etc. and think of head on steel / tarmac.
How I stayed on and upright I still don't know and the look on the driver's gf's face in the passenger seat was priceless :-) -
The police say that they have no record of a personal injury collision on the A40 Bayswater Road for February 2009. This doesn't mean that a personal injury can be ruled out 100% (consistent trends from hospital admissions show a high degree of under-reporting of collisions involving cyclists to the police), but it is fairly unlikely that a serious injury would not come to the attention of the police, and virtually impossible that they receive no report of a fatality.
On tfl website - Bayswater Road between Lanc Gate and Leinster Terrace - accident cleared - road now reopened.
Hopefully that means good news...........
When I posted the above it was IIRC about an hour after the o p. The road had been closed in both directions according to tfl's website so no way were the police not involved in whatever incident had occured.
I made the good news comment on the assumption that, had the accident been of a serious / fatal nature the road would have stayed closed for 3+ hours for evidence gathering although I / we do not know how soon after the actual incident the thread was started.
Thankfully, it does sound like a happy ending.

You need to present a high enough Radar Cross Section. I mentioned it a few pages back. There's a speed camera on a hill on my way back from uni and when traffic slows to 30, I can easily get past them at a high enough speed to set it off, but I can't actually set it off. I've often thought of carrying a big board on my back but then I've thought the drag would either stop me going fast enough, or stop me fitting in between the cars, thus defeating the point of it.
This should be better than a board.....

dude, its 1.82 to the "e" not times 10 to the power of -8
and i think its presented as 1.82e x -8
e is approx 2.711.82x2.71x(-8) is **~39.56kph i.e. 24.56mph**
Both wrong as 1.819221216032059e-8 was my warp speed (although Eddie, you somehow fudged the correct mph, presumably from the mach no. elsewhere).
Went out for a ride earlier and got 28.8 mph out of it. Somehow managed to later hit 35.5 going up the hill in Greenwich Park!!!???
Target is to get the right side of 30 and then speedo goes in the bin.
Beam me up Scotty..........
