All the bits that are really nice to ride in LA, I kinda wouldn't want to do fixed....

Topanga and Malibu canyons are lovely roads if you make it up there.

Mulholland and environs (Coldwater Canyon etc.) are nice if you're staying in Hollywood / N.Hollywood etc.

Anyone know anything about Hetchins frames? My old man picked up something that looks very much like a magnum opus. Looks like phase 1 lugs, but no mention of Tottenham or Southend on the badge....just Hetchins Cycles England. Also no magnum opus on the toptube. It's blue with fairground script Hetchins logos and curly stays, Period campag hubs (with wingnuts) and weinman rims.

Looks maybe too big for me, but may attempt a geared resto anyway. Will try and take some photos next time I go over and see him.

Also just grabbed a Raleigh Royal 531 to build up for me as a good distance fixed, just need cranks / bars / wheels to get done....any 27inchers kicking about onsite?

I had an 04 Condor Pista...absolutely loved it. Great, lively frame, decent wheels and tough.

Think the pista frameset is a fair bit lighter than the potenza?

Seriously - put on a lower gear than you need and go a little slower / spin faster. The pain will go and you'll do a lot to improve flexibility in the knees.

Try spds, again loads of float.

I run 47:16 and tbh that's overgeared for around town with all the stopping and starting.

Just took me new wheels for a little Tower Bridge -Barnes - Loopla. Cripes begorrah was it windy going west.

Coming home took seconds.

Think the lavoro has limited road potential though.

what you need to remember is that if you ride a bike for 10 hrs a day in a city filled with other vehicles...fumes,dirt,smog...locking it constantly to posts, railings etc....it's eventually gonna end up looking like a beater. :)

I used to wrap all mine in 'leccy insulating tape for that exact reason.

Simoncelli frame and fork for 45bin....got to be a bargain for someone. (sadly just too big for what I need)

Ramming Speed!

I find that my voice works better than a bell. I have tried various different cries such as "Watch out" or "cyclist coming through" and "excuse me please" but they seemed to be ignored, often by non English speaking tourists. A stroke of genius presented the answer. I now shout "ACHTUNG!!!!" very loudly. It's impressive how everyone jumps swiftly out of the way.

Good shout...my chum richard used to scream BANZAAAAAAAAAAAi! when confronted by unruly peds. It was a scream.
