Speaking as someone who used to live round the corner (next to the Crown and Sceptre in Great Titchfield Street) I say about bloody time. Oxford Circus's profusion of barriers and prevention of diagonal crossing is a gigantic embuggerance to one and all and a nice example of horribly vehicle-centric street design, in which a vast horde of peds is held up for long periods for the convenience of the relatively small amount of traffic. (Check a driving map BTW - you'll note that Oxford Street is a minor road as far as motor vehicles are concerned).
I used to live just up on the left from the Hat and Stick....
Ox Circus Junction is ridiculous, but I genuinely believe that if they remove the street barriers, peds are going to get splatted by buses bigtime. It's one example of how people do sometimes need protecting from themselves.

Hmm, just back from Berlin - Strange and alluring place.
But that aside, I barely saw any fuzz in 4 days of walking all over the city. They are certainly a lot more low pro than london.
Loadsa of bikes though. Personal favourite being a rusty, battered old colnago Saronni rep locked up at the bottom of simon dachs strasse with a 2quid chinese lock. Trusting lot the Berliners.
Made the pilgramage on saturday to Keirin Cafe but it was closed! Ach so, es ist alles wurst as (i think) they say....

A rocket got launched at me on Guy Fawkes Night on the Aylesbury Estate once. I'm eminently pleased that pyrotechnics industry has not developed fine control systems on their products. A couple of nights later a friend of mine had a narrow escape from a catherine wheel. Seriously, who the fuck uses a catherine wheel as a ballistic object? Did they think it might imitate rifling?
Blimey, knowing the Aylesbury a bit you're lucky it wasn't an RPG ;)

I think I just leaned on my keyboard is all.
I was trying to say that I have also got a new bike from Berlin, and also that I would like to marry a goat. Yes.
(google translate fail?)
I can do it in Scouse if that makes things easier?
As in just got?...via ebay perchance?
Anyways, the eagle has landed. Duder has been in contact and I've just got to sort the shipping.
Yay.

Er...I crossed Hammersmith, Richmond, hampton court, walton and chertsey bridges...you can mix and match which side of the river you want to be on west of hampton court, north is a bit shorter. It's a pretty mellow route but there are hills out around Virginia water and definitely if you push on for Henley. It was exactly 40miles to Windsor.
-
Gents,
Weather is forecast sweetly for today so this is on. Any takers?
Cheers,
Joe.Basically leaving WC1 @ 6pm prompt and roughly following the river west as far as possible before it gets dark, pints at the end, then railroading back.
Winsdor is the goal, taking in hammersmith / richmond / hampton court / walton / chertsey bridges.
-
Definitely need to do the whole route. Could be a great opportunity to pile on some serious gear inches....(or cheat and take the road bike.) ;)
