it simple - the more we report those incident, the more attention it should get from the police, same go to bike theft as well, the more we report it the more likely they'll end up focusing on it as a serious crime.
Yes I agree with you Ed - but what I was saying that my incident was deemed non-reportable by the police. I tried to report it, they refused because there were no injuries requiring medical treatment and driver handed over details. Only point I was making was that in the absence of those things, don't bother filling in lengthy forms because you will end up throwing them in the bin, as I did!
-
Either way, reporting to the police is a must, since quite a lots of cycling incident go unreported, and TfL (as well as other board) tend to rely on those statistic for future reference.
When I went over someone's bonnet earlier in the year (they were pulling across me, not having seen me, attempting to go the wrong way down a one-way street), the police couldn't have been less interested. In fairness to them, I wasn't injured and the driver gave me her details.
The damage to my bike was minor (torn bar tape), and besides the police said they wouldn't get involved - it was between me and her insurers.
I asked to fill out an incident form but was told that it would simply be a record for me that I had told them - it would not be used for TfL etc etc. So god knows why anybody would bother filling it out.
Sooooo this is all a long-winded way of saying that if you weren't injured and you got the driver's details, then don't bother filling out a form. However if they absconded then the police should deffo be interested.

so it could be good, or could be bad, depending on what you're into.
Yesterday I described something at work as "better than a kick in the nuts" to my colleague... then I remembered he is an open deviant and I hastily added "well, depends on what you're into." He replied with a mischievous grin "you don't wanna know!" :(

@matt_r_p: flip the rear wheel NAAAH! the chainline is off when u try it with the fixed side by min. 5 mil
So what's the answer? Is it fixable??

Also, the brake pads were about half a mile away from the rims, the back brake's quick release didn't work, nobody had seen fit to grease the inside of the seat tube and it is supplied with flat pedals and no straps. On the upside, they had supplied 16t cogs on both sides of the hub so flipping it was easy, even for me.

Day before yesterday along Oxford St I was caught up in a motorcycle protest against parking fees for motorbikes. There were about a dozen of them, sounding their horns a LOT and wearing fluoro protest jackets and observing red lights. It was a bit of a crap protest. I would have taken the piss but I didn't want to get covered in motor oil / sodomised / insert your own motorbike tradition here.

i couldn't love bon iver any more.
While I was waiting for a wheel build at 14, I went into a clothes shop round the corner at the Truman Brewery. Bon Iver was playing on the shop's sound system. I said to the bloke behind the counter "I just can't stop listening to this album", he says, "neither can I, we've only got three CDs in the shop". Trufax!

And another one...
Heading along the A4 cycle path, east, this morning. Minding my own business when a squirrel darts straight across my path without even indicating. Could have been curtains for me. The government should fund an ad campaign alerting squirrels to this kind of dangerous behaviour - it's only a matter of time before a cyclist is seriously injured in this way.

Heading east on Bayswater Rd this morning. In inside lane, nothing ahead of me, doing about 18mph. Cars in outside lane doing maybe 15mph. I notice mini-van in outside lane ahead of me is slowing down a bit. Junction coming up on left, alarm bells start ringing... sure enough I get to the junction to see a Merc is moving across to turn into the side road. I brake and swerve, a passing tourist lets out a "whoa-oooohh!" and I have just enough time to do a Roger Moore style eyebrow-raise to the Merc driver. Strangely quite satisfying .
ignore me - just found the reference to Bamboo tees. never heard of em but evidently the big V thinks they are kosher.
