Ok call me useless but... I'm after a new paintjob from Armourtex but am not sufficiently confident in my mechanics skills to (a) take my bike apart properly and (b) put it back together afterwards. (I know I should learn but I'm both impatient and lazy.) Is there a cunning way round this? I'm in Hammersmith so the prospect of schlepping it all the way there & back in the car doesn't fill me with joy either. Any genius solutions much appreciated - or is it just tough shit on me??

Dude on red fixed with a zebra-skin jacket (or maybe just zebra pattern jacket) slogging / nodding his way up Hillingdon Hill this lunchtime. Would have been more sympathetic but I was due back up that hill myself a few hours later.
Also spotted in one 50-metre stretch of The Broadway in Southall... six drivers each committing a different annoying-motorist-maneouvre (dooring, pulling out in front of me, overtaking then turning left etc etc). Only the sweet smell of good curry kept me cheerful.

at the end of the day it is just escalating a situation more than needs be, i was already late for work and there are loads of cameras there. i'd be screwed if i got an assault charge.
Bingo. My sympathies though mate - glad you were unharmed.
A white van undertook me at speed on Fri on Ken High St with only about three inches to spare. At the lights, I pulled up alongside the driver - a kindly-looking old gentleman with a silver beard - and said 'are you trying to kill me?', to which he responded 'get off the roads you cunt'.

When I started riding fixed I got knee pain & aches (at night, strangely). After a few weeks they went and I've got muscles in all sorts of places on my legs I never knew you could get muscles.
Personally I'm happy with the standard-issue Fuji Track gear ratio - I've got quicker on my starts and I'm not spinning too much when I get to go fast. (But I freely admit I don't know any better either!)

The pads quite well aligned but not immaculately so... one of them has a bit of toe-in, the other is flatter against the wheel. If it's that simple, I'll have a play with them, thanks.
@tomasito, if it's not the rim that the brakes press against, what is it? Not being sarky - I thought it was the rim.
-
Just got some new rims... but now every time I pull hard on my front brake, it emits a very loud very high pitched screeching noise as the pads rub against the rim. It sets the teeth on edge of every ped within 500m and it's only a matter of time before I shatter a nearby window. My first thought is to cover the pads and rim with plenty of grease but does anyone have a better idea? thx.

Quality answers, I'm pissing myself. Both 'mummy' and 'ding dong' send out TOTALLY the wrong message.
I did think "I'M NOT STOPPING" would be good. But then I read about the cyclist who killed a ped in 2008, and that's what he shouted. It would give me the willies to shout it now.

Imagine the scene... you are approaching some lights, they are green in your favour but some peds start to cross anyway, some of them oblivious to your imminent approach. What do you shout? (I'm assuming you don't use a bell.)
Two posts at the weekend alluded to this. cliveo (I think) favours 'Achtung!' which has a bit of shock factor; someone else favours 'Ding!' if their bell isn't working. I've tried 'excuse me' to little effect; 'yo' and 'oi' are a bit better; 'MOVE FUCKING MOVE' is good but it's a bit wordy.
What works for y'all?

A really great ride.
Big up the organisers - it was impressive to see the outriders patiently explaining to all the motorists we held up why they were having to wait. It was cool to see passing peds asking 'what it was all about'. And very cool to see Eilidh's family & friends clapping as we arrived at our destination.
And obviously 200 of us RLJing Marylebone Rd / Baker St was an added bonus.
