Its quite astounding the safety procedures that go into planes. A former colleague used to burn test things for Airbus (and drop test military stuff) which meant analysing the ignition speed, heat, burn-speed and gases from the fire for lots of stuff in planes; not just seats etc but in-flight electronics, staff uniforms, etc. Between that and drop tests his job was basically to set fire to stuff and push stuff from various heights onto the ground. At 21 just having started a boring office job it sounded like a dream.

I've got a bunch of sensors, bulbs, smart plugs etc in my house and wanted to link them together in an open source sort of way. I've got a raspberry pi i use as a mobile VPN device but I'm a bit unsure what other building blocks I need. My door sensors use Zigbee which (I guess) means I need a USB stick to plug in to access the state but any idea on software stack? I've seen mozilla-iot running before but not sure what the various pros and cons are to that or other implementations.

@hoops - best thing to do is ask them for a proper photo of the item they're sending out. Mine haven't arrived but it helped me choose between some sellers. Usually they're happy to snap a photo, when they aren't I don't order.

Mate of mine did the same at Hull Ice Arena to impress a girl. She numbed his ear with ice from her coke and poked her own earring through his ear. He almost passed out. Then almost vomited. It's pretty hard to work out what events at my school were bullshit and what actually happened. We know for sure the various affairs between teachers and the ones who liked pupils a bit too much. At secondary school the worst example (and reading these stories, we got off relatively well) of that was my form teacher who told the girls to wear skirts when it was warm as it was more comfortable for them. What he meant was he could stroke their legs when marking their work.

I know for a fact loads of parents complained over several years but the head told them the teacher was too good to "throw away" on a bit of silliness from young girls. It was only when the head left, we got a new headmaster and when the teacher tore the back of a kids ear (off to hospital for stitches) dragging him up the stairs for some arbitrary rule break that they decided enough was enough... and punished the kid. But they clearly bollocked the teacher because he was good for the rest of the year and then went into semi-retirement as a PE teacher at a local private school.

I also wouldn't be entirely surprised if his Democratic opponents are pushing this as clearly, as a candidate he obviously appeals to the "traditional" white American voter. Military service, clean cut, christian etc and if, as he suggests, his policies are going to be of equal interest to BME Americans as well then they need to do something to disconnect him from those voters.

In honesty, I think that's a big issue with the Democrats. They provide loads of ammo for the Republicans themselves during the race for the nomination.
