Sooo... scratched from the short event I signed up for. Riding was fine but the heat was just too much for me, ultimately got to over 40 degrees on the last climb I did. Even with cold drinks, shade, dunking in fountains I couldn't get my HR down and I couldn't face riding the Ventoux in that state.
On the plus side, REALLY enjoyed the riding (until I didn't). Usually I listen to podcasts/audiobooks/music on longer rides but didn't bother with my headphones at all, just enjoyed the sights and the time to think. Organisation and route were good (went through villages with bars/food every 40-50km rather than having people have to go off route).
I've worked out what I think I can improve on in terms of training, kit, food and the riding itself. All that said I enjoyed the whole experience a LOT more than I felt I would at the start. Will definitely be giving some more a crack.

Labour victory is such a certainty that people should just vote for what they really believe in.
Large parts of the French population said something like that in numerous 1st round elections and ended up with a choice between someone they disliked intensely, and someone they hated (2002 the first time I voted there, it was Chirac and Le Pen). Ensuring the most minimal chance of representation for both Tories and Reform is, IMO, more important than assuming winning is guaranteed.
Last UK election it was pretty much a certainty that there wouldn't be a spectacular collapse of Labour support but what we got was just that.

On top of that another Reform candidate, Ian Gribbin, claimed...
...the country would have been “far better” off if it had “taken
Hitler up on his offer of neutrality” instead of fighting the Nazis.Ian Gribbin, who is standing in Bexhill and Battle, also wrote online
that women were the “sponging gender” and should be “deprived of
health care”.He also described Winston Churchill as “abysmal” and praised Russian
president Vladimir Putin, according to the BBC. -
I agree, just interesting to see arguably the best player of his generation intimating he won't want to put on the blue shirt again if the far right are running France.
That said, the comments in the right wing press are no different in terms of tone to those of the daily mail article if Rashford had said the same. 65% of people in a poll run by the Figaro said he should have kept it zipped...

My thoughts on Briancon is that it’s nice but it feels a bit rundown - in the town itself, the scenery around it is incredible.
Would agree. We rented a chalet out past the Intermarche/Casino/whatever it is now and had outdoor space and a BBQ so other than shopping, going thru on rides we didn't really bother with Briancon itself.
Could also stay in Cesana Torinese over the Italian side; that seemed nice when I was there for a night.

Actually I've never re-greased them so maybe that's it
