Yeah that. It’s more so that I don’t HAVE to join a local club. That said I probably should at some point or just get a few mates together and start one.

Is it possible to be a member of a BC affiliated club without living in the UK? There are a few events around Europe that want some sort of federation membership and it’s a real pain in the arse here.

Lidl here (Luxembourg) is doing pannier bags for 12.99e for two and a 20l bar bag for 10e. Almost (but not quite) makes me want to get a rack.

I just like ERG mode as it removes one more thing to think about if I'm working on a specific session. As @onyerbike said, it makes it easier if you're on a hard session but it's not really any different for gentle stuff.

Started AND finished Hunters last week (lot of traveling)... overall I liked it. I can see why it's caused a bit of debate but it's pretty cartoony so I think you'd have to be a bit oversensitive to find it totally offensive. I enjoyed it I think.

I imagine you could make a similar claim for their IT side. They seem to set up their data centres in countries with decent infrastructure and skills to exploit (Ireland, Luxembourg), but which also conveniently behave as tax havens.

They don't have a data centre in Luxembourg but they are one of the largest employers in the country and are a major reason for immigration to Luxembourg (whether from existing Amazon people or new ones). Can't speak as to whether they did a deal on company tax but I do know there are (or at least were) a number of "tax efficient" schemes for growing companies in Luxembourg which don't need a company to be new globally, just new in Lux. It does have a lot of advantages (access to the slightly depressed border region talent pool, multi-lingual population, immigrant friendly/tolerant culture etc) but also it isn't cheap so they have to pay well.

I guess if we take a step back, nobody bats an eyelid when riders become super strong at Deceuninck Quick Step (and reverts to lower performance when they leave) but eyebrows are raised when they do the same with Astana. Vino could be their worst asset.

There's different versions out there depending who spoke to whom but given there weren't charges against him it's likely to be 50-50. You know, though, people make noise and people complain all the time, it doesn't need to end up in a scrap. My impression of him is that he's pretty aggressive and I imagine if he comes up against someone similar it can escalate. Probably doesn't help that he's quite handy with his fists so isn't likely to be scared and back down or try to make peace like a lot of people would.

That said, I bumped into him and Steve Chainel just after he won the purple(?) jersey in the Giro and he seemed like a nice enough guy and well liked at the bar we were at.

To be fair though, you don't need to go too far to see when he did punch people or threaten to. Missing the French nats after smacking someone making noise in the hotel and breaking his hand for example.

French press was pretty clear about it. Supposedly he wanted his bike shops to be the exclusive distributers for Look in NW France/Brittany. The story is that when they said they wouldn't do it, he threw his toys out of the pram and started to work to get them separated from Arkea-Samsic.

Greipel is out for 3 months I think. Seems unlikely he'll make the tour in that case.
